I got another reply off Dell:
I'm going to send one more email and unless I get any new information from the others trying to get their HDD, I'll be calling it a day.
just out of interest, am i the only person who ordered this who has not as yet received any further correspondence (cancellation or rescheduled delivery) since the order confirmation PDF? am i just forgotten by dell?0 -
Nope, not heard a thing from them other than a delivery schedule.
Will be keeping an eye on my bank account for refund.I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

Ok, I got the customer service email which stated to give them my phone number so they could call to give me a better experiance. They called 20mins after I emailed.
I was told what we already know that it was error and price is wrong and they dont have any, all they are prepared to do was give me back my money and maybe give me 10% off an item. I explained that my money was taken on the 14th I will not get it until Friday (£24th) I explained that was totally unacceptable. Which they agreed with, I asked how many 100s of people have dell taken money from and made a profit from this, no comment was made.
I was told I wouldnt get the drives or equvalent I said ok I want my money sooner than Friday and Im taking the matter further you cant do what you did.
I also questioned them saying they dont have the drive, I said we only have your word for that.
We shall see, I just now want my money back but they were a bit perturbed when I said im taking matter further.0 -
Much the same as you, pay - I've already sent a formal complaint this morning. I received both an order acknowledgement & confirmation - they've known for days that they weren't going to supply the drive, yet didn't contact all the customers who'd ordered them & also kept a hold on my money for a week. Had they informed me sooner that they weren't going to supply the goods (for whatever reason) & released my money, I could have taken my business & my money elsewhere.
My original delivery date was 21 Aug, subsequently revised to 28 Aug - if I hadn't rung them today, they'd have had hold of my money for over 2 weeks (they said it'll take 3 working days to appear back in my account), knowing all along that they weren't going to supply the item. I didn't totally expect to receive the drive, but I did expect them to promptly both cancel the order & take steps to release the money back to my account. They did neither.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Just had a phone call from Dell - confirming what I already knew, since receiving the cancellation email on Sunday, and blaming an 'Internal Error' on their system.
I suspect the main reason for the phone call wasn't to give the 'personal touch' to breaking the news, but more to do with the fact that I was quickly offered the chnace to placed an prder for a differnet hard disk.
So they aren't necessarily phoning to confirm cancellations - they just want to try and get you to order something else!
Wasn't bothered in pursuing anything - have already sourced and ordered an alternative Hard Disk, albeit at £60 for a single 500GB Int. SATA instead of the external ones.0 -

I think it was a case of we have your money so might as well order something else to save hassell.0 -
The bigger picture on this which is going to benefit DELL (as I've already posted) is that prior to this, if you managed to get the PDF file giving confirmation of order then you were guaranteed to receive whatever had been ordered as they would honour any orders which had gone through to the PDF file stage (been on the wrong end of that
).....but this now means that even if you get the PDF Confrimation of Order file they do not have to honour the contract. Interesting thing is, they have added the
"Dell will not be responsible for typographical, pricing or other errors and reserves the right to cancel any orders based on such errors.” to the Order Confirmation PDF file but their own Terms and Conditions of Sales and Service states under section 3.3"Dell accepts Customer’s offer to purchase under this Agreement & makes a binding Agreement by issuing an Order Confirmation. Order confirmation is binding except, in the case of consumers only, where there is a discrepancy between order confirmation and what consumer ordered and where discrepancy is unacceptable to the consumer."Looks like they updated one PDF to include a "get out clause" but forgot to update thier T&C PDF to include the "get out clause".Best of luck to all who are trying to push Dell on this......but don't expect to get it.Just a shame that Dell have made it impossible to get a miss (bargin) - priced deal in the futureWelcome, rogerramjet.

I got another e-mail from Dell yesterday, saying that it was an error etc. It said my money should be back within 5 days, despite already sending me an e-mail on the 17th saying it would take 5 days (still no money back).
I'm not too bothered about not getting the hard drive, but they took the money out of my account on the 15th, the day after I placed the order. And before someone says don't order if you can't afford to be without the money, that's not the point. I won't be starving because they haven't refunded me, but they took it out quick enough - they should put it back at the same speed!0
