Time to sit back and think, a small irritant like this is turning people into arrogance and stupidity. No wonder in some part of the world they are turning into suicide bombs.
Now Can I have my Nobel Prize ?0 -
How many people have been told Dell will contact them tomorrow, everyone, or just those that have contacted them? I sent a polite email asking for status of my order, and when I finally received my cancellation on sunday it said: However, we will contact you on Tuesday regarding the same. Request you to kindly bear with us until then.0

Got a reply back from dell....
We understand your concerns and we regret that this situation has arisen.
Unfortunately we are not in a position to fulfil your order given that this product has been discontinued and we hold no stock of it.
In your email you queried the legal position. In the Order Confirmation you will see that it states:
"Dell will not be responsible for typographical, pricing or other errors and reserves the right to cancel any orders based on such errors.”
We do apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused to you.
Kind regards
Dell

....it was a mistake, accept it as such & move on?0 -
There is no difference between an internal HDD and an external one. An external (portable) HDD is simply an internal drive in an enclosure.
IMO, an ext. HDD that is a sealed unit is very different to an ineternal HDD in an enclosure, and will definately be more expensive. Also, seeing as these were being sold by Dell, I'd be very suprised if this wasn't a sealed unit. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

It may just be a drive in an enclosure, but an external one has much slower speeds due to them using USB/Firewire. Also you can hot swap an external drive (Although its not a good idea to do this constantly.
What you are talking about is how the drives are connected and data transfered.
An internal HDD in a caddy, becomes an external HDD. Remove a HDD from a caddy and it's an internal HDD fit for putting inside a PC. It may be of a slower speed, eg 5400 not 7200, but they're the same.
An internal HDD in a caddy becomes hotswappable, if the caddy allows it.
As far as the other points on sealed units, that is the design of the case, not the HDD. There is still a HDD in there that is the same as any other (internal) HDD you might buy off the shelf, or find in a PC.
Drives used in caddys may be slower, eg 5400 not 7200, to reduce noise and heat. Caddys may be insulated and have fans, or not, it doesn't make any difference to the point I was making. The HDDs themselves are no different to the wide choice of HDD you get everywhere else.
Anyway, that's totally off topic, sorry.
I got another reply off Dell:I completely understand your situation and apologize for the inconvenience this
issue has caused.
As of now we are refunding the amount that has been blocked for this order back into
the customer's account.
I request you to place another order by calling our sales department on 0870 907
4000 or by going online.
Also, I just received a confirmation from our finance department that the amount has
been unblocked from our side and should reflect in your account within 27/8/07.
I will contact you on 28/8/07 to confirm the refund.
I'm going to send one more email and unless I get any new information from the others trying to get their HDD, I'll be calling it a day.0
