Hi All, I have been following this thread for a few weeks, thanks to all who post the great advice. I have just booked our first trip to DLP :j. Been wanting to go for a while since we went to Disneyworld 2 years ago..... and have a few questions.

We have booked 3 nights, went with the santa fe option, as it will just be a place to sleep for us....will be spending the majority of time in the park. We are going in June (half term) and are driving down from the North West. We are planning break the journey up and do a night enroute in the UK somewhere, then take the ferry across and spend the next night (sun) in a cheap but decent hotel near the resort before we checkin on the Monday.... and after our last day in the park on the thurs....any suggestions? I have heard that you can get room only at the disney hotels cheap, is this likely to only happen closer to the time?

unfortunately onsite room only is only cheap from December to February each year usually. There are plenty of other options though, anything in val d'europe or bussy st george is a short (15 minutes of less) drive away from your onsite hotel.

    few more questions:
EMH: will this be everyday in June?

    yes, probably

Cafe Mickey: if we don't want the set menu how do we go about booking in advance? It's DDs 4th birthday the following week so we would like to do the cake... is that arranged in advance or on the day? Any idea on the price of the cake?

the cake is 25 euros. you can either add it to your existing package and pay in advance, or order it at least 24 hours before you want it, either at your hotel or in City Hall in the main park. You don't have to pay to reserve a table at Cafe Mickey - again you can either call the Disney Dining reservation line on 0033 160 304050 before you go, or reserve your table when you arrive at your hotel, or at City Hall.

Am thinking about buying shares to get the discounts and access to Salon Mickey etc, will we get discount at cafe mickey?

    yes you will

Characters: when we were in florida my DDs loved meeting the characters and I've read that it's more hassle at DLP.... How many characters come to the hotels in the mornings? If they only come at 8am is it better for us to use the EMH or wait at the hotel to meet the characters.

the characters are at each onsite hotel from 8am until 11am each morning, usually 2 per day and they rotate every half hour. I would go to EMH from 8am to get the best out of the rides which are open, there are plenty of character queued meet n greets in both parks too. Or, if the EMH rides are getting busy after 9am or so, you could go to the Disneyland Hotel (right at the entrance to the main park) and meet the morning characters there, outside the Inventions hotel. You don't have to be staying at the DLH to use any of the public areas there (restaurants, gift shop, bar, and character meets in either the lobby or outside the restaurants).

Santa Fe: Are there ice machines? As we are driving we are planning on taking a cooler so we can take snacks, drinks etc, but will obviously need ice to keep it cool! I have read they have kettles, but no cups!!! so will plan ahead for this.

you have to pay a 30 euro refundable deposit to get a kettle in your room at the Santa Fe, I take my own travel one and cups, coffee etc. There are vending machines and ice machines dotted around the Santa Fe, you should see their locations when you get your hotel map when you check in.

Half board: is it worth it? Youngest DD is a very picky eater and usually just shares with us. If you want to do character dining do you have to pay extra?

no, half board is not worth it if you're getting shares. your shareholder discount is much higher than any half board discount.

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm sure I'm giong to have lots more!!! Thanks in advance:beer:

    hope this helps,

One more question - do you have to pay for the car park at DLP?

hi we've booked to stay in the davy crockett ranch on the thurs 9th fev til 12th - i don't really fancy trying to make meals up on a night and wondered if anyone had any tips / hints on how to eat out on an evening cheapish but nice? My kids tend to eat ANYTHING but prefer proper food to chicken nuggets etc.. I will have a car so am happy to drive outside of disney - but don't want to obviously drive too far (petrol will offset the price of cheaper meal..)
any hints or tips would be great.. last time we ate in the all you can eat restaurant in disney (forgotten what it's called now) so may do that again!
    thanks
ps does anyone know what the breakfasts are like at davy crockett?

yes .its 15 euros @ the main Disney carpark
but i recommend parking in the Disney village multistorey car park for 8 euros !

we always end the night @ the village, and you actually end up closer than if you park in the main carpark,as unless you are there early you could be quite a walk away !
  • Just anohter quick question, roughly how much spending money do you think we will need, roughly.
We are there 5 nights so 6 days in the park, we are half board and planning on using brekkie bits to make up a lunch. We have back packs with hydration bits so will be carrying 3.5 litres of water between me and hubby.
So thinking hopefully will only be ride pictures and toys for kids.

Am I being stingy thinkg of £500 for the week spending money, thinking of £300 for bits for the kids and £200 for other bits.

There are 5 of us 2 adults and 3 kids

Would also appreciate any recommendations and location of the "all you can eat" type restaurants.

Also, is there is much of a price difference between eating inside the 2 parks and in the village ?

I think that will be more than enough - last time I had all meals free I don't think I spent more than about £100, for 2 of us, for 4 days.

there are lots of them :). If you have a DLP brochure, or can get one, they are all listed towards the back of the brochure (under meal plans). The Village isn't cheaper than the parks are, but the earlier poster was talking about driving out to val d'europe to eat, which is much cheaper as its not Disney.
