Ah thanks so much for your reply - its great......its all questions at the moment - we have been advised not to book the buffallo bill wild west show, would you agree with this? Also would you book the princess character meal at lunch or dinner if you had the choice.

i haven't been to either Buffalo Bills or the Princess meal, so can't really help you there.

We want to eat somewhere nice on the saturday night for my husbands 40th but somewhere child friendly but not an all you can eat buffet place more of a table service place.

i'd probably choose either Walts or the Blue Lagoon - Walts has loads of little detail and the Blue Lagoon is inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (you can even be seated near the water and wave at the riders in their boats as they pass you :))

Do we need to take anything special for the children - a friend advised an autograph book and pen, disney fancy dress costume etc.

definitely take costumes with you - lots of kids wear costumes every day at DLP. Wish my daughter was still young enough to want to wear them :).

Ballet, when I get my Disney discs from Florida I'll try and post a pic - we went to Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party and it is the only time adults are allowed to dress up as characters. So we all did. :D Well, kind of. It was so hot the kids could not wear the furry Dalmation Costumes I had speant hours on pondering over getting for our 'theme' outfits so they had to put them on just for the photos!! And my husband and I were the ones walking around in Fancy Dress all night and the kids in normal clothes. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

definitely bring costumes from the UK, as they are soooo expensive out there!

autograph books and pens can be bought in the shops, and are reasonably priced :)

Agree, we went for DD birthday and she wanted money to spend at DLP on a costume so everyone in the family gave her money.

Her dress and accessories were (hold your breath) 130 Euros.....:eek: 99 Euros of this being the dress.

She refused being talked out of it although we did try but we also had to respect it being her money (she was 6) and it was what she wanted and had asked people for. It was horrible handing over that money.

The first costume (Snow White) scratched her skin badly so we took it back the next day for an exchange and she got a Belle one. however, it is the best made and most beautiful dress we have ever bought. It is made in a way so that when she twirls it has these elasticated bits inside and it just twirls like Belles dress in the movie and twirls out but does not lose any length - hard to explain. It was 8 months before I let her wear it to play - at which time I realised it was ridiculous and let her put it in the playbox. it still fits her now 2 years on and it is her pride and joy.

We did however come back from Florida with Princess Tianas dress, much cheaper but nowhere near the quality of Belles dress, if I am honest.

    Hi everyone.

Complete newbie here. Might be asking quite alot of questions im planning a trip for my husbands 40th. To be honest i have no idea where to start, ive read loads of this thread and pages of stuff on dlrp magic. I'm still confused (doesnt take much).

Im planning on going in September for 3 nights for 2 adults and 2 kids, ive been looking to go by eurostar as it seems the easiet option but if anyone has any other ideas (we dont drive). Seen a few reasonable flights but then ive got to deal with tranfers and baggage etc so if anyone has experience of which ones best that would be a massive help.

Ive been looking at the disney hotels, would love to stay the big castle one or the new yorker but funds wont stetch that far, does any one have any reccomendations, ive been looking at Newport bay, seqouia lodge and third choice would be cheyenne. Obviously price is the biggest factor but also how far the hotel is from the park (can it be walked), the hotel in general.

Thirdly (and last for now i promise) has anyone chosen the half board option and if they did was it worth it, it does appeal paying for it in advance so we can get it out the way, its coming up as £240 for the 4 and looking at the menu its seems ok but any thoughts would be helpful

    Sorry for the ramble x

pp. First off I love the Eurstar as it is so easy. You'll not be able to book seats for that until 4 months before you travel though.

Hotels: Well, it is personal choice really. I have stayed in NY and, for the money we paid, it was nothing special - I would not go again. I love Sequoia Lodge though, it is just very homely there, I like it. It can be walked but all of them are walking distance (and there are shuttle buses), you have to get used to walking :D

As for the meals. We had this option for free when we went last but all the restaurants we wanted to eat in were full so we ended up using them in Caseys 2 nights in a row which was pretty grim (and we had a fight to use them in there). I'd have been cross if we had paid for it to be fair. I personally, prefer to eat in Disney Village aswe always go to The Rainforest Cafe, and you can also get snacks from the bar of your hotel too.

if eurostar is convenient for you this end, its definitely the easiest option once you get to DLP - it arrives practically at the gates of the parks :).

all the onsite hotels are within walking distance of the Village and the parks - 15-20 minutes max for the Cheyenne and Santa Fe, slightly less for the Sequoia Lodge, and less again for the Newport Bay. I think your kids would love the Cheyenne, but it doesn't have a swimming pool. I've stayed at the Newport Bay but didn't really rate it I have to say, its such a huge hotel and our rooms were a 10-minute walk from reception once you got inside the hotel! I think the Seqouia Lodge in September would be lovely, all those trees in the grounds starting to change colour for Autumn.

the half board meal plans don't save you much money at all and they do restrict your restaurant choices - and remember you only get a meal voucher per person per night booked in your hotel ie if you book 3 nights you only get 3 meal vouchers each (and you don't get meal vouchers for any child under the age of 3).

I would now look at every component separately, see if booking it that way is cheaper. ie check out Eurostar yourself, then get a quote from Disney or Expedia for the hotel and park tickets, and source your own travel insurance. You can add the half board meal plan price if you wish, but it doesn't save you any money.

Thank you. Will definitley look at booking them seperately. This doesn't in any way affect the help you receive with booking in your luggage or anything else if booked seperately does it? Also, when I wanted to return on a Saturday, disney said the trains dont run on this day but have heard otherwise. Any idea if this is true? Am off now to price seperately, many thanks for your help.

We've done Buffallo Bills dd5 absolutely loved it and so did I but I can appreciate not everyone would necessarily like it. The princess meal at Auberge is lovely, we're doing it again next month, depending when you're going it's likely only to be open for lunch. As already mentioned I would say Walt's is a nice choice for a good meal but again you need to check what time they are open, best to call the restaurant reservations and check.

Definately take your costume, dd always gets great treatment when she's dressed up :D
