unfortunately, thats just how they make their money. you must have expected to pay ott prices there??
Yes of course i expect to pay over the odds... But there are limits. I mean last time i went it was 6.5 euros for a pint of lager, which roughly equated to £6.50.... Where i live a pint of lager is £2.20ish. Seriousily yes of course some stuff is OTT i mean a disney princess dress was i think £75 euro.. about £75, now c'mon you don't expect to pay that. I think i looked at one just the other day in M&S and it was £15 if memory serves me right. I really don't see the point in paying for inclusive lunches or paying at a resturant silly prices £40+ when you are getting 2 full meals included if you do the Half Board option. I think the best value for money outside the included meal deals was Mc'donalds for about £15..:D.
God knows how expensive it is now with the £ against the Euro...
My partner works in the NHS. They have a discounts site. Now if we booked through that site we can get 50% off and kids under 12 stay free. This comes to a total for 2 x adults and 1 x child £475. This is staying at Sequoia Lodge for 3nights/4days.
Now if i go through the disney site direct for the same package but lunches included i would pay £570. That is a £95 difference. Why pay that when i could do without the lunches and just have a few rolls etc from breakfast. I mean even if we ate at mc'donalds it would still work out £50 cheaper.0 -
We're a family of 5. Lunch in DLP easily sets us back over £45.
It's horrible food as well too."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

On the disney website it's come to £448 for 2 nights and 3 days worth of passes, although we'd only use 2 days of going to parks. This seems like a lot for 2 people. But it seems the park hopper for 3 days is £119, leaving about £120 per person per night for the hotel cost, which is much much more than what I'd normally pay.
I also couldn't see check in times, but I was going to assume they'd be latish around 3? Is there somewhere to store bags so you can visit the park before check in?
You can store your bags at the hotel from the time you arrive, and collect them when you check in. Check in at Disney Hotels is 3pm I have been told today.0 -
My daughter saved all her birthday money and paid 110 Euros for a dress as she saved it for the reason to buy it there. She asked people for money so she could buy a dress. So yes, people do spend that kind of money on a dress. I was horrified but it was her money and it was what she wanted. Your kids might choose a bike or an X-box, mine choose a dress.
She was having none of it on buying a cheaper one but there is no Disney Princess dress that touches the quality of this dress. She still has it, has had it for 2 years now, it is still going and will fit her for another couple of years.
We also collect the pins and trade them so we buy those too. And inevitably they'll buy some flashing thing that get's stuck in a toybox for the next few years. But hey, that's Disney. We know we are going to buy them, I cannot see the point in going all that way, spending all that money on a Disney break and then complaining that all the Disney stuff is too expensive and a rip off. Of course it is, everyone knows that but for us it is all part of it and we allow money for it.
And wherever you go for a day out these days a meal for 4 people is £25+ so it is to be expected surely? If you want something extra special such as a theme restaurant then it costs more and you pay more for it. If you went somewhere like the Rainforest Cafe then you can choose a casaer salad with chicken as a meal and I am sure the other restaurants sell the same things. Just that people want 'fast' most of the time and this tends to be cheap burgers and hot dogs.0 -
Tried to book the Disney Express today having booked my break via Expedia (DLP website was not working) and was told I could not by DLP and Expedia. It can only be added on if you book direct with DLP. It costs £14 pp.
However, our train get's in at 13.45 so we will be at the hotel at 2.15ish. We can check in, get our keys and ticket, leave our cases in their store and collect them later when we can actually get into our room (we might even be able to get into the room by then). Then when checking out of the hotel you can book the return Disney Express on the day and pay 4.50 Euro PER CASE and they will take it to the station for you....!!!! Bargain. That is about £4 each and we will only have 2 cases.
Something to remember for the future. Especially if arriving on a day when the park is open late or has EMH.0 -

Mad, you let your nieave daughter pay what £110 for a disney dress just so she could buy it there..?. You could have taken her into paris brought it in a disney store there for cheaper and she probably could have got 2 or 3 of them..?. If she was my child i would have said to get it before and she could have worn it to disney. That way she would have happy having her dress with money left over to get some other items.
As for £25+ for a meal for four at lunch i'd say that is an underestimate and a half. as i said for five of us in the buzz lightyear it cost £40+ probably nearer the £50 mark and you say this is expected..?. Wherever i go abroad (espically disney) i expect to maybe pay over the odds but i never expect to feel ripped off.
*EDIT*. My apoloiges if i sound a bit harsh. What you do with your money and the way you let your children spend theirs is entirely your decision. Guess i must just be tight.:D0 -

I could well have done. But it was her money and her choice, it was what she wanted. Other kids want to spend £35 on a computer game,. Mine don't.
As it goes, my daughter spends most of her days with her life being made hell by her brother who has Autism, if she wants to spend HER money on a dress and dress up like a princess and feel special because she bought it from Disneyland itself then what the hell should I care. I never let her wear it for months but I realised that was just daft and now it get's worn wherever.
I also buy myself one pair of Ugg boots each year at £100 a pop. My treat. For me. A lot of people think i am not when I could buy fakes for a fraction of the cost.
But as we do not drink, smoke or go out, nor do we have a social life because of my son's condition then I would have thought that when I am on holiday (at a place where he is welcomed) I can have a bit of escapsim and spend my money on whatever I like. It is budgeted for and paid for as we know what it is going to cost.
We spent 2k when we went to Florida, I'd estimate 1k of that was spent on food in 2 weeks. But it was all paid for and budgeted for. It is what a holiday is for for us, escapism from the crap that is dealt out on a day to day basis when you have no life but caring for a child who you cannot take out places. Fortunately Disney is so full of stuff to do it gives him a distraction from his condition and frustrations for just a few days. For us it is not for moaning about how much everything costs, you do what you can to save money but nicking stuff from the breakfast buffet is not the top of my list of 'things to do'.
If you don't like the whole Disney thing then why on earth are you going just to moan about it all?? Are your kids going to have memories of ebing told they can;t have anything because it costs too much?? Have you been to Alton Towers and the like? It is just as bad there and we paid £30 for a few pizzas that tasted like god knows what. You make it sound like you never eat out? We rarely do but when we do we can expect to pay £35 for a meal for 4 of us in the UK, surely you would expect the same when on holiday? The only difference is we are usually printing out vouchers to save money, holidamakers to the UK are still paying the £35 for a meal for 4 as they do not have vouchers. It is all swings and roundabouts.
That being said if you eat before 7pm then you can get Kids Eat Free in King Ludwigs Castle and a 2 course Adults meal is around £8. There are lots of places offering these deals, special menus and Kids Eat Free before 7pm if you look for them.0 -

Apologies accepted but I've put above why we go and expect to pay that sort of money. It is escapism for us from our usual life. if I had to pay £100 for a meal then I probably would. Because for us it is escapism.
That being said, a few years back we booked a meal at Cafe Mickey as it was where DD wanted to go for her birthday, the characters came out and sang Happy Birthday, she loved it. Then they bought out this HUGE chocolate cake and they charged is 15 Euros for it. I made sure we ate all of it. Heck, I never wanted to see a piece of chocolate cake again. I can still taste it now. :rotfl:0
