  • a question for all you lovely people.
has anyone booked direct through DLP...over the phone...had the money come out of their account that day (i paid the deposit) then for it to mysteriously appear again 5 days later?
i spoke to my bank they have no note of it being taken or anyone trying to take it....DLP said that this happens alot...they request it but the bank take a while to catch up but it will come out eventually!!
but i dont get it as it already came out the day i paid...was just as confused after talking to her than i was to begin with!!

  • Just got back from DLP - Wow it was packed but the Halloween theme was great. Here are my tips:

    Travel
We are a family of four (2 young girls). We always drive and take the Eurotunnel, based on a standard short saver fare plus a tank of diesel and tolls its about £200. Better still collect Tesco clubcard vouchers and pay for your eurotunnel that way. Its 2 hours 50mins from Calais to DLP and driving is fantastic. You get to pop into Cite Europe on way back as well!

    Hotels
We've stayed in many but we choose Cheyenne - why, they have bunk beds which are ideal, its only 3 min bus trip, ok breakfast is mad but be get up early eat at 7am and head to park to make most of extra magic hours from 8am. At the end of the day we only sleep there so i'd rather save money and put towards other things.

    Booking
Always direct, have never found a better deal. Have booked aywhere between 6 months in advance and 2 weeks.

    Eating
We didn't get the FREE meals offer this time round. We stuff out on breakfast and then grab a full meal about 2pm. This way we take some bits from home which keeps us going through the day, this cuts down the cost considerably. Average cost for meal for 4 is £60-£70, this is soft drinks only and a main meal with odd dessert. Kids always eat from kids menu. We love Annettes Diner. Have done Planet Hollywood, King Ludwigs and Steakhouse. We do now avoid Cafe Mickey and Rainforest as these are over prices (aren;t they all). TIP: eat at Walts (on Main Street) around time of parade and ask for a window seat - cracking view. We rarely eat at hotels, tending to stay at parks throughout the day. Starbucks is a new additions so nice to round day off with a Hot Chocolate.

    Rides
If you have early magic hours then you can chalk off quite a few rides in Discovery Land and Fantasy Land. My youngest daughter was award Pirate of Day which meant we could walk right on to Pirates ride which was nice. Also once you;'ve seen parade use this time to go on some of the more popular rides. Also Fantasy land gets quiet for those extended evenings.

    When to go
Christmas is magical, halloween was fun. At busy peak times expect to cue for upto 90mins for some rides. Last week the following rides had the longest wait times: Dsney Park: Thunder Mountain, Pirates, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain, Autopia. Studios: Crush, Tower of Terror and Aerosmith.

Whenever you go, however you go - you'll have a great time. The trick is to Relax and have fun and not get stressed. Oh and be tolerant with Europeans they are not a patient bunch. If only they adopted the USA queues for characters it would all be so much easier.

we were in France this past week, and went to DLRP for the day on Wed

LOVED the halloween theming, plus the park looks so pretty in the autumn, all the leaves turning colour etc :)

it helped that the weather was great! most of the day we didn't even need a jacket, let alone the gloves etc I had brought ! lol

It was also much much quieter than we had expected! ( we have been at xmas and summer hols and this was much milder!) longest we queued was 30mins

did see queue times of 80 mins later in the day ! ( star tours) but we just FPed as much as we could
and then in the evening, after a meal at the village a lot of the rides eg POTC,IASW etc were walk ons and could keep going on !

A fabulous trip all round :)

that makes an amazing difference..the staff i mean.
i think eventually before our kids get too old we'll do florida too...they know about service over there lol

Ive never found the staff rude at cafe mickey and its the best for character interaction. if you read on www.disboards.com under the disneyland paris section youll see the majority prefer it over lucky nugget apparently the food at lucky nugget has gone down hill and the character intervention isnt as good

Wow Inspector Monkfish - 11 times - you make us look total beginners as we are only on trip 5, however we are planning to have made 7 by the end of next year.

Can anyone answer me a question about Annual Passes? If we buy one adult annual pass while we are there this time, can we get the discounts straight away on eg eating in the restaurants? We also want to book a trip to go back with MIL in March so can I use the pass to get discount on booking the next package - we'll be staying in a Disney hotel again? As we are doing some travelling in Europe later next year we expect a day or 2 back at Disney, but this time in a motorhome. I've read somewhere that you can get the free kids pass (kids under 7 stay and play free) if you ask when you buy and adults, has anyone done this recently?

    Sorry for so many questions!

Yes you can get discounts as soon as the AP is bought. You can also get discounts on subsequent booking of disney hotels while in possession of a valid AP. You can also get the kids under 7 AP free when buying the adults pass.

Another good tip is to buy some shares in DLP which is quite easy to do online. Apply for a shareholders card and get a reduction on the AP's plus better discounts on restaurants, purchases and hotels plus other great benefits. I did this and it cost me about £40 altogether, the savings since have been huge and the card is valid for 2 years.
