Hi guys, may have been asked already but cant find an answer to it.

We are looking to go dlp in may/june with our 2year old.

We have noticed the obvious difference between the price of the hotels on the complex and the hotels that are very near by vi shuttle but not onthe actual resort.

We would of course spend most our time at the parks/villiage etc so hotel is almost secondary.

Our main interest is for our son to be able to see and greet characters etc.

I know you can do this at the disney hotels but can you see them at the park as well?

What are the main differences between staying at a disney resort hotel and say the holiday inn disney resort and the other nearby ones?

DO they provide a disney type experience?

there are many character meet and greets in the park & studios, also the disneyland hotel @ 4pm each day has characters, that anyone can go to :)

also character meals ( which we found better as no "scrum" like there can be at the meet n greets in the park!) are a good idea

we always stay offsite,as its much cheaper
for us its just a place to sleep and shower! so would rather save money and be able to have nice character meals and buy more souvenirs etc :)

we buy dream annual passes,so can still enter the park earlier ( EMH = extra magic hours) like those staying onsite can

also served by shuttles ( though we usually drive)

the explorers was very good, and would stay there again :)

have a look through here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=790982

also check reviews on trip advisor

    xx

ALL the Disney Hotels have mmet and greet opportunities, usually around the main reception areas, at Breakfast times mainly, and also throughout the day

they are always in an orderly fashion, with the chance to get a decent photo - unlike in the parks where its just random chaos, or huge queues

for that reason alone, i would say the Disney Hotels are worth it - especially Cheyenne and Santa Fe for value for money.

they also have fully stocked shops that have all the Disney merchandise - i am not sure if hotels outside the parks have this.

in may/june you will also have a very pleasant 15 minute stroll along the river, around the lake and through the disney village on your way to the parks (or the free bus if you want it - personally i prefer the stroll)

we are off in a weeks time, just a quick Q... as im worrying now we dont have enough spends..lol
on average how much would a family of two adults and two children age 10 and 2 need for spends including meals for 4 days? just a rough guess as we dont have a clue how expensive things are there..lol

    its VERY expensive !!

if you are driving, stock your boot up with drinks, crisps and snacks for the kids to save buying them in the park

there is a mcdonalds if you want to save money, but the queues there are horrendous (i've been to DLP every year for past 10 years and only used MacD once, it was too crazy !!)

there is a baguette place in the station that is cheaper than eating in the parks - you have to go past it to get to the parks, so it can be worth buying something there to eat later in the park

restaurants in the village are all expensive (Cafe Mickey, Planet Hollywood, RAin Forest Cafe, Annettes) , and all work out about the same price for a family, BUT with Cafe Mickey you get the added bonus of meeting the characters at your table

    have a good time....

We are looking to go in March for a long weekend (use an inset day) with an 11 and a 14yr old. Where is the best place to stay?
They don't want the character experience so we don't think the disney hotel would suit, they aren't to bothered about western style either. We'd like to be as close as possible.

Do they count as children? I realise that if we fly my 14yr old will be an adult, but what about in hotel rooms? Are the beds big enough for a 14yr old if classed as a child for instance?

I've done loads of research and read the whole thread but just seem confused now

    thanks

    any one help??? thanks

when i was considering off site vs on site,(have ended up booking santa fe) one i narrowed it down was in val d europe (1 train stop away, and near shopping centre, resturants, sea life centre etc) and it had a name something like hotel lysee val de europe (its a partner hotel of disney but not owned by them and off site) http://www.hotelelysee.com/uk/accueil.php
