I just want to say a big thank you to Balletshoes for the advice on this forum, just returned today from our first ever visit to DLP and had a fab time, already planning next years trip! We bought Fantasy Annual Passports which were great value for money, saved on restaurants and the shops, also on Buffalo Bills. :j0

Hello everyone
After reading about 150 pages I feel like I know so much more about DLP than I ever thought I would, and I'm really grateful for everyone's questions and answers!
However, I would like to ask a few pieces of advice please
We (myself, the better half and our 3 kids 11,10 and 5 at time of travel) are off to France for a week long holiday in Bordeaux next August, and due to the crazy price of flights (even looking now, London Airports to Bordeaux at that time are approx. £190 return per person, yikes!) have decided to drive down and back.
We are thinking of the following options: DLP on the way there, for 3 nights, Wednesday to Saturday morning, and possibly a return for the same kind of stay on the way back. We are staying in Bordeaux for the first week of August. ( I know, high season, but unavoidable)
The only time we have been to DLP previously was quite a few years ago, before our youngest was born, and we stayed an Magny Le Hongre Self Catering, which back then was really cheap, like about £65 per night for a 6 berth apartment.
so, my questions are :
What are the logistical possibilities for a family of 5 staying within a Disney Hotel?
I've seen some kids stay and play for free under 12 stuff online, but I assume that the price for the BH and me, requirements to eat for us all for the trip, as well as the fact that a friend mentioned a family of 5 in a DLP hotel would need 2 rooms would mean this isn't going to be our cheapest option?
(Happy to be told otherwise , I would love for the kids to stay onsite at Disney, it's not something we have ever done, although we would be happy to make sacrifices to try to make it happen (sadly Florida is way beyond our means!)
Are there any self catering options within DLP itself? I see this as our cheapest option for keeping costs down on food etc, and we normally do this kind of holiday.
What are our cheapest park ticket options, I've seen the annual passes mentioned many times, is this best, and would the adult and child under 12 offer x 2 with another kids annual pass be best?
I hope someone that has travelled as a family of 5 can share their experiences of how to make it the most cost effective holiday possible
Many thanks

the Davy Crockett Ranch is the only Disney property which would fit your family in one accommodation - but as you're driving this could suit you really well. Its classed as onsite, so you get the characters visiting the site, you get the buffet dinner restaurant, you get the Disney gift shop onsite, you get access to Extra Magic Hours etc etc.
If you want onsite in summer, its more than likely that a package including park tickets for at least some of you (ie one adult and any free kids - so probably just the 5-year old) will be the cheapest option as far as price goes, then you would be looking for APs for the other 3 in your party.
Next summer's prices are already out on the official DLP website, so you can get an idea of what you'd be paying if you have a look now.
If you're happy with offsite, there are a fair few campsites within 30 minutes drive of DLP, that could work out much cheaper than the Davy Crockett Ranch.0 -

of course you can get it cheaper - but it depends what you want. Do you want direct Eurostar, or are you happy with indirect via Lille? Do you desperately want the Disneyland Hotel, or is it more any onsite hotel as its just somewhere to rest? Is your price including free half board, or are you having to pay extra for it?
eta - go after 12th November, its French school/public holidays right up til then in November, best avoided if you want a pleasant quiet park experience at DLP.
also, try a check-in date of a weekday, not Friday or Saturday, as those are the most expensive days of the week to check in at DLP.0 -
