...It's not just the odd one or two though. It is not acceptable that the posts are still there five hours after being noticed.

How about putting a SPAM reporting button on the search results window.

This would negate the necessity for normal users to systematically open the offending posts/thread to report them. When I see many spam posts it's a real pain to open each one. It's often glaringly obvious they are spam without needing to open them all.
