I've got an interview tomorrow morning for a teaching assistants job in a local'ish school, these jobs are so few and far between and apparently they were inundated with applications cos these jobs are so sought after. I'm amazed they're even offering me an interview cos I've never worked in a school before

Although did have a chat with the woman in the office that rang me to confirm the interview, apparently they are a secretary down and would be advertising that soon, so must look into that when I go tomorrow.

    Wish me luck

On the challenge front, I've listed a few bits on ebay this week so hopefully by the weekend I shall be able to update my sig, plus I will be AQA'ing my heart out and I've got a few mystery shops lined up.

    How's everyone today?

Well this is just the thing, the advert was in the local paper from the school direct and said just write a letter to the head teacher enclosing your CV, no application form required

So I wrote a long letter pouring out alsorts of carp into it and they have called me in. So I dunno what I've done to deserve it - I'm a PA in an Architects and have been for 10 years, previous to that I worked in a bank for 10 years since leaving school so no, no qualifications. Doubt VERY much my application will be taken seriously so I'm not holding my breath - I'm definately interested in the admin position they're about to advertise though and will look into this tomorrow :D

Have you tried looking on your local councils website? Sometimes the schools advertise there, and the local papers. If you really are desperate for a job of this kind I would recommend you do a standard letter to all schools in the area including your CV and see if that gets you anywhere. Good luck hun :D

Good luck with the job jo ... and fingers crossed for you madmoney. I'm a teacher so I can't advise on applications for classroom assistant really... but I reckon saying lots about experience with your own kids would help.....

  • Thanks purple, I used to be a nursery nurse but it was waaay back when and i didnt receive the qualifications after 2 years of studying, something nasty happened to me what i dont want to say on here at the time, but i think thats what puts employers off. Therefore altho i have 2 years college experience, no1 is willing to take me on as not got the qualification! But i would love to get back to working with children, its what i do best!!

  • omg omg omg!!!
Just had a nosey at the local councils job page, i didnt think there would be anything there as the kiddies have already started back at school, but there it was - teaching assistant post in the school 4 mins walk away from where i live!!! :j
Im definately definately going to go for this job, but there are 3 reasons why its going to be tricky
    1. My son is at nursery at the mo till january, so i would have to sort out childcare for him till then which will be very tricky:confused:
    2. :mad:Other half asked me while I mentioned about getting a job in a nearby school that I should NOT get a job in ds school, he had a bad experience or something with it. The school where the job is going is the one ds is going to be attending in January
    3. As said ds is starting in January, and Im pretty sure I will be in his class, will they see this as a negative thing?

advice needed guys, im going to bed now to dream about my new job but will be here in the morning xxxxx

You need to ask your other half what kind of bad experience, trouble is with school jobs both you and your partner will be CRB checked or you will and your partner if you live with him will I am sure have to be mentioned on form. Sure it won't be anything to effect your application the only things that could are anything CRB related or social services just like childminding really.

As for your son going to the school that should not be a problem most schools employ parents, I am on the Governer board for our school and most Governers end up being TA at schools!

WIth a low income have you not considered speakign to your local college and seeing if there are any vacancies on TA courses? Its still early in the term so I would!

Childcare these days is a lot easier especially when you consider your income rise so don't be put off!
