well done mm, im pleased for you that you resisted the temptation. ill be honest, i used to have a bit of a problem myself, nothing too major but would deposit money into online gambling accounts and keep depositing it and depositing it, then when the mortgage came to be taken wed struggle every single month. and it was a direct result of me spending all this money on gambling. one month our bank rung up and said our mortgage direct debit was going to tak us over the overdraft limit, and if we didnt deposit £300 something that day it would not get paid. i was distaught and i think thats what made me stop and think. so im really pleased for you that you didnt give in. BE STRONG! at the end of the day though, it could have easily been the other way round, her £30 could have gone straight away and she could haveput another £30 in and another. i just think if you cant afford to play and not loose then you shouldnt play... :o

i know what u mean about that cr*p feeling you have when u dont get shortlisted for a job or you get interviewed and dont get it. its such a crap feeling. makes you feel proper useless doesnt it :( but then i think, well everything happens for a reason so maybe we shouldnt dwell too much. do what i did when that job rung me up, get drunk and pass out on the in laws sette... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

hope ur not too down anyway mm, "dont worry be happy..." :rotfl:
  • aaaw thanks nog, thats cheered me up a bit!! well technically the xmas savings have been spent....but on ds xmas pressie so its for xmas and was a real bargain!! Ive just had a look for a new telly and the one at 375 quid what martin put in his email looks alright, ill see how much they go down tho after xmas i think.
Yeah my cousin foned me before - shes new to this site, and she had deposited 100 quid last night alone, but won back 90 this morning, and she was trying to justify it saying "oh, im still up on what ive won", trouble is, she isnt coz she went out and bought a 37"lcd tv for 400 before the winnings were even in her account!!!
That is exactly what I would have done not so long ago, but now Im not even tempted to get that tv, I want to save even more money on it so keep ur eyes peeled for me every1!!
Right Im off to work now, another long shift oh well, it all counts for xmas i suppose!!

    Happy saving every1 xxxx

  • hi guys how has every1 been? not had chance to come on here lately, been too busy with work n stuff, speaking of work, its having another revamp, the 3rd one in 18months, and its getting me down, I really need to find another job within the next month or Ill have to go thru the cra*py training all over again!! Im asking a woman I know if she still needs a chef at her pub, shes expecting her 2nd baby in a few months and I overheard her moaning a few months ago about not having a chef, so I will casually mention it at the nursery today!!
Failing that theres another job at a college near me, and its term time only, but 10 hours a week which I would need more of!! But it sed there might be overtime available!!
Just thought Id check in and say hi, hope every1 is ok!!

    Hi mm,

Definately mention the chef's job later, I'll keep everything crossed for you! Even the 10hour a week job would be okay if you can fit in another job round it. Where there's a will there's a way....apparently

I'm working my notice here, finish on the 2nd and start new job on 5th, nervous, excited, sad, stressed out, all manner of emotions going on here :D

Let us know how you get on xx

  • Hiya Jo, its funny, coz the 5th november is when my place shuts for "refurbishment", like I said, I just cant be bothered with all that training again - its so pathetic, I have my health & safety, food hygiene and "stepping stones" already, so all I would need is to be there for the hands on training with the new carvery they are putting in, I told the big bosses this, and the fact that I work part time due to having no childcare but they sed it was "mandatory" that I attend - this means doing a deep clean of the kitchen, moving everything out and back in again, and then, once the builders have made their mess, cleaning it all down again!! I know it sounds petty but Ive only been there 18 months and its the 3rd time they have changed it, so Ive gone thru this twice already, its a case of "oh, Liannes good, she can stay on and do all the extra hours" - it does my head in, sorry to rant!!

Im torn really between the two jobs, there are positives and negatives with them both so Im gonna list them here!!

    Chef Job at the pub
    positive:
My ds and landladys dd go to the nursery together, so I already know what shes like, and she will understand my need to work around ds
I could do my part time hours, then if I go over, it would be cash.
Its literally up the road from me, and with no car thats a definate plus
I could put ds in nursery for dinner, costing me 1.60 a day, then run across the road to work!!
I could start doing traditional foods again, so there would be more job satisfaction
    negative:
Im not sure about the hours or rate of pay
I would still have to work weekends

    Catering Assistant at the college
    positive:
    TERM TIME!!!!
I wouldnt have to go over my hours, which is always a plus, anyone who claims tax credits will agree with me
Its a set time and as Im quite an organised person this will suit me to a tee!
No weekend work involved, which means I could be at home with ds and dh all weekend, something I havent been able to do for over 2 years
    negative:
As its a catering assistant, I would feel Im taking a step down, as Im a chef in a busy restaurant at the mo
Its as far away as my current job, not miles away but not as close as the pub
I would be working with customers again, which I hate as Id rather be hidden away in the kitchen!!!

    What do you think guys?
Obviuosly Im gonna go for both of them, but if I get them both I really wont know which one to choose, altho at the mo im favouring the pub job more:confused:

Well they are quite even on the pros and cons front aren't they, which is a booger, similar to my job quandry a few weeks ago!

I think you've listed quite well there, the pub job is good, particularly as you already know who you're gonna work with, it's what you want to do and enjoy doing. Is this the one who's having a baby? If so, then there could be loads of overtime potential soon. It's convenient to home and nursery. On paper it seems the winner to me. Although the weekends are a bind, but if you're doing part time anyway then that's not too bad (easy for me to say as I don't work weekends :D).

Catering Assistant job is just that, an assistant. Now it sounds as though you've worked your way up the ladder and you need to decide how many people you'd be happy taking orders from and whether you'd be happy having a status that has gone down a rung or two. This is what has happened to me as I am currently a PA but in 3 weeks time will be an assistant secretary on half my current wage. But I weighed the options and I want more time with my kids and a different lifestyle so it won in the end. Although I do plan to work my @rse off and get promoted very quickly, in fact I'm determined to get promoted before xmas which only gives me 5 weeks

Sorry I'm rambling now, basically you need to apply for both, re-write your pros and cons once you've got an insight into what you will actually be doing and getting moneywise, holidays and overtime plus what hours you will have to work. Plus mention to the college job about possible promotion and pay increments and how quick can people normally work their way up if they work hard enough.

That post probably didn't help at all did it!

Good luck for both jobs, keep me updated :)

hiya evry1! feeling bad cos not on here for a bit cos our laptop broken the stupid thing! so round at my mums now using her 'puter!
did u ask that woman at nursery mm? be brave! :)
ive got another interview this fri at 9.30. hoping ill find out either way the same day. its a scale less then im on now, but 6.5 hours a week more-so works out at about 100 more a month, i think. so good all ruond really-apart from im a bit miffed that ive got to look at a lower scale to get myself sumat permenant... :(
not saved no extra towards cmas yet, but on the plus side payday tomorrow-and that means £30 to my mum to oput away for cmas for me. might update my sig now to include that meanings as ill not be on again for ages!
got a bit of luck in my wage slip this month-getting £674 tax refund what horrible tax man has taken too much of! wippeee!
going to boring things, wish i could use some towards cmas but its all needed elsewhere-ie hol, few "pesky debts" (reminising), and dh needs some new shoes (bless-hes been getting wet feet for about 3 weeks everytime it rains...). so going on pretty boring stuff to be honest, but better then wasting it. plus, if i allow myself to use it for cmas ill end up spending more on people then i really want to. if that makes any sense at all...?!

anyway, cmas saves now stand at 130 inc tomorrows money, which im happy is enough. just aswell cos not got another payday beofre we go cmas shopping at end of oct now... :)

take care peeps hope to get ou puter back on soon so can update more often xxxxxxx

OMG NOG! Congratulations :D:j  :T

Sorry, I didn't see your post on the 17th otherwise I would've sent good luck vibes!

Isn't funny, I've had to take a job that is at a lower scale just to get the hours I want, now you've done the same thing and MM is considering an assistant chefs job which is a step down to what shes doing now. I think sometime's we've just gotta do that to get the lifestyle and changes we want.

Fantastic news, I'm so happy for you :)

MM, anything happened with those 2 jobs yet? Did you speak to the woman up the school?

    xx
