  • Hi to everyone again, it's been a long time, sorry I got caught up with starting my new job and getting a second one to help things along. Good news is that I finally paid off Littlewoods today, a little belated but only just got paid after a months worth of NSD's except petrol and surviving by eating my folks out of house and home! Will try to catch up on everything thats been going on, hope you've all been well and reaching your goals. Great idea about the Xmas debt challenge will get on board with that! House still not sold but fingers crossed it will be in the next week! x x x

    Afternoon all,

    Nog, what happened!!!!!!????????

Ok, so 20 minutes before interview no. 2, interview no. 1 (school job) rung me and offered me the position. They said due to experience I would be put on the highest pay grade but this still means I drop 12k a year  she did say though that they would look into a way of promoting me into Grade 4 as they know that money is my biggest issue in accepting. She wanted me to say yes there and then but I said it would be rude to cancel an interview 20 mins before and that I felt I should go anyway (she didn't sound happy :undecided:

Anyway, went for interview no. 2, the office was dead, nobody was talking to anybody part from 2 women up on end of of the office that I heard say the 'f' word 73 times in 10 minutes plus a scattering of 'c' words so I was instantly put off. Had the interview, went quite well I think as I've got quite a bit of experience that they need but they can't tell me until at least tomorrow. School wanted to know today so I've put my phone on divert

    Now pro's and con's:

School job, pro's: 10 weeks off work a year, lovely office, lovely people, fairly local.
    con's: money crap.

Council job, pro's: money better - still at least 5k less than I'm on now, opportunity to progress into whatever department I want to, working for the council is a good job, local.
con's: not sure about office environment and if I'll be happy, only get 22days off a year instead of 10 weeks ;)

    What do I do?

  • hi jo, if it was me personally i would go for the school job, altho it is a big drop in pay, there are lots of benefits!! Once your other child is in school you will have NO childcare fees whatsoever! But thats just me - you should do what yuo think is right!
    Hope this helps

Hi mm, I would still have childcare fees, that's the prob...the job is 8.30 - 5pm. Although I will be home 2 hours earlier every day and get to cook the kids dinners. At the mo DH and DD1 is doing the cooking and DS complained that his dinner was burnt yesterday (don't think she's going into the cooking business :rotfl:).

I'll be able to bulk cook at the weekends and give them a proper meal everyday. Although this said, the hours are the same for the council job too so I'll be able to do this with both jobs.

I would go for the council because working for the council will increase your chances of getting school jobs anyway and you get to hear of internal vacancies so its like getting your cake and eating a better one in years to come!
