    Bake Off Boss!
Evening all - nannygladys, sorry to hear that, take care of yourself - we'll be here when you get back.
Today was a SFD (work days generally are), got a decent workout in this morning too in spite of the stairs fiasco yesterday (my calves are really painful now though!). Put an extra £20 in my New York fund earlier because it was annoying me not being a "round number," and donated £5 to the hospice where my grandma passed away. Busy day at work tomorrow, and Friday, and then I'm at a training day on Saturday (will take 2hrs to drive there and starts at 9, yay :( ). Hope other turtles are doing okay today.
Bought my first house in 2014 - now, to be mortgage free! :D

New York, New York: 3150/4000 (79%)
    Emergency fund £1000/1000
    Survey earnings 2016: £40

    Evening Challengers!

So, the mini challenge to see us through the next few days, is World of the Strange
You will find as many weird ways of saving money as you can. Many people find my own habit of going to the nearest place there is a lot of rubbish, paper waste, and sifting through it, pretty darned weird, but hello, my wombling score for the year speaks for itself! By spending time rumaging around, (normally with my feet, poking, turning things over etc) I have found a £10 note, lots of free money brand match coupons, empty McDs cups with the loyalty bean still attached, all sorts! £285 is not a bad total for 6 months of being a weirdo :)

So, with that in mind, get creative. Do you do the sniff test with laundry (not underpants I hope) to check if you can get 1 more wear out of clothing hence saving money?
Do you create weird concoctions in the kitchen to save ££££s
Have you glued bits back onto your shoes to get 1 month more of wear?

Go on get WEIRD....and then come here & tell us all about it. We wont laugh, I promise (might be a lie)

Sorry for missing yesterday, my darling step father died yesterday and as you can imagine I'm feeling really sad as I was going to see him next week, so forgive me if I dont post until I get back as things have to be sorted out, but I will keep on being frugal and watching all the pennies coming and going

    See you when I return

I'd love to start my own business but I wouldn't know where to start! Happy working for someone else for the time being :)

Well. For me, it came out of 2 things colliding. Becoming a Mum, & thinking about what I would want from a cafe, & seeing a location every single day that I walked past whilst walking 3 miles to buy a coffee:rotfl:insane more money than sense maternity leave period....
Im a great believer in, if you can see a nieche, and think its a viable idea, then why wouldnt other people? So, that was my starting place. I then took a year off to develop the proposition.

The Only Girl - I can see where your OH is coming from. Sometimes you can fixate on 1 thing, in your case, the bed, & feel like because you cant afford it then and there, you are doing badly. But then you get the thing, eventually & feel fine again. You guys are so close to debt freedom now, it must be all you can think about. I know I feel obsessed right now & Im no where near really speaking. Thanks for the great poem too.

Westie - you are doing so well on your NSDs, sorry to hear your a bit stiff & achey.

WelshKitty - Well done on another NSD!!!

MissTara - An excellent increase month on month, you are doing great.

Calling - Well done on paying another £20 off. Would your daughter consider knocking off the swimming lessons for a term? Sounds like your DGS may need a bit of time.

Dolly - I agree about solitude not always being good, when you are stressed. I am always grateful to come on line when I am feeling fed up or lonely during the working day, as I work alone, and the only people I interact with are customers, who I do my very best to never moan at for obvious reasons! Hope your son did well on his exam.

Miss Debt - Excellent that you managed to make a NSD anyway and have a lovely break wont you.

Abundant - Fair enough on the supermarket credit card idea. But maybe one day :)

And finally, I dug deep today and paid off another £33.28 of my CC. I am now £36.72 away from hitting my stretch target for the month. I would never have paid so much off without this secondary goal to work towards.

Thanks welshkitty for your encouraging words. Good luck on your business venture! I am sure it will be a success!

Bob what a challenge! But we will embrace it with enthusiasm. My mind is already going into overdrive thinking how much weirder I could be. The world'd better watch out - weird turtles will be going out for total domination!

Thanks bob. Hubby is pacified now with the promise of bed window shopping. This last mile of the debt free journey has been the subject of our discussion over dinner with my two hungry hippos - how sometimes when you've run the full course of the race and you're nearly there, you feel like giving up coz you just can't make it and it is so hard to see the finish line. But We ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE FINISH LINE. I wanted to make sure the kids are not feeling fed up and deprived too. The last thing I wanted is for them to see budgeting as a symbol of deprivation and poverty but I was pleased when they both assured us that the last three months had been the most challenging yet most fun and exciting three months for them. Whew. Don't kids teach more potent lessons sometimes than adults do? So proud of my two.

Speaking of hungry hippos, DS2 had 5 helpings of the chicken chow mein. I totally didn't expect it from him - although he's a big eater, he has very specific requirements for his food, being in the ASD. Either he's definitely turned into a teenager now or he's been so hungry all day! Either way I am chuffed to bits.

    Hugs nannygladys.

A SFD for me. Not very productive day. Made a gorgeous vegetable curry using (YS, home frozen) leeks, aubergines and courgettes which I took out yesterday to defrost. Mixed the spices whilst toasting bread for breakfast (wasn't sure the bread was good for anything else), then monitored it whilst eating toast and running a bath. Wasn't sure about it when it was done, but it matured brilliantly before lunch time. Thought it would do 3 meals but it has done 5.

Need to get my skates on tomorrow as there is a viewing at 2pm - all those jobs I have been trying to get done.

Today I am grateful for having had a bath and clean hair, for making something from nothing and nudging up the declutter target (have thrown away white sports socks - they were given to me by DS1 in February last year, have given excellent service but now make marks around my ankles (lost all the stretch) and the seam is damaging my big toe - so time to thank them and let go.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.
