    Morning folks.

Nannygladys - sorry to hear your sad news. Hugs to you x

Mothernerd - your veggie curry sounds gorgeous. Good luck with the viewing.

Bob Well done on debt repayments, trying to catch you up. So if you could slow down would be great for me. 30 pounds off for me today.

Swimming lesson didn't happen yesterday as grandson went with school, lucky he had his stuff with him as we didnt know about it. So tired felt cruel to take him for another lesson plus informed me he can swim now ;-)

Had to spend today, Lidl shop before work due to guests arriving later. Excited and looking forward to seeing my big brother and his wife. May not be about till Sat.

Have a lovely day folks and happy debt busting x

    World of strange challenge

I have cut back on washing my hair every couple days now stretch to 5. Not only does it save on shampoobut dying hair is now stretching to every 6-7 weeks. My hair is curlier and bouncy for it as well. Not using bubble baths as epsom salts rule, not sure if this is working out cheaper ?

Thanks bob. Hubby is pacified now with the promise of bed window shopping. This last mile of the debt free journey has been the subject of our discussion over dinner with my two hungry hippos - how sometimes when you've run the full course of the race and you're nearly there, you feel like giving up coz you just can't make it and it is so hard to see the finish line. But We ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE FINISH LINE. I wanted to make sure the kids are not feeling fed up and deprived too. The last thing I wanted is for them to see budgeting as a symbol of deprivation and poverty but I was pleased when they both assured us that the last three months had been the most challenging yet most fun and exciting three months for them. Whew. Don't kids teach more potent lessons sometimes than adults do? So proud of my two.

Speaking of hungry hippos, DS2 had 5 helpings of the chicken chow mein. I totally didn't expect it from him - although he's a big eater, he has very specific requirements for his food, being in the ASD. Either he's definitely turned into a teenager now or he's been so hungry all day! Either way I am chuffed to bits.

I'm the same with my children. We see their friends going on flash holidays and having umpteen ipads and iphones per household and I think I'm letting mine down. They are happy though, we go away 4/5 times a year in our caravan and usually once to somewhere else without it, we do loads of outdoorsy things, they are in lots of clubs, DD has a smart phone (I am very anti Apple so she'll not have an iphone), they have games consoles and tablets and tons more.

A lot of children in their school brag about their things and criticise what others have, not a nice trait in children or adults. Neither of mine ever do that they are happy with what they have and have a good sense of the value of money.

Mothernerd - good luck with the viewing.

Today I have to pay £30 for a trip DD is going on with Guides, it was already budgeted for so that's OK. Yesterday was grocery shopping and the day before I bought some school uniform so not too good on the NSD front but I don't bother too much because it was all planned spends.

DS passed his piano exam, the poor little mite was so nervous he couldn't eat. DD got her SAT's results yesterday and got a Level 6 in everything, she was chuffed to bits but the rest of the girls in her class were very mean to her for the rest of the day, she is used to this and we are hoping when she starts Year 7 it will change, she is going to Grammar school so all the kids should be at a similar level. Downside of going there is they have the most expensive school uniform out of all the schools in our area, it is costing me a fortune.

    Hey everyone!

Hugs to NannyG - I know you didn't get to see him as planned but send him your love and light a candle for him... and look after yourself in all of this.

Thanks TheOnlyGirl for the poem too. It's great you are nearing the end of your debt... All I would say is have another goal to aim for. When I hit my DFD and it passed... all that excitement and drive just dwindled away and I felt like I was in a void. This had occupied my every waking hour for so long that when my debt went I almost missed it. Almost lol. So yes... have a plan and some new goals on standby!

    SFD 8/10...

Today has been a bad day for Westie's bones, I have had a sick day from work I wasn't able to get out of bed due to leg spasms and feeling like my leg was on fire, being poked from the inside not pleasant, but this has meant that I have enough petrol to get me through the next week hopefully...

I am back at the hospital Monday so that will save on petrol as Im being picked up and dropped off, hopefully I can get some answers to why I'm getting this pain almost every night... its very draining when it affects sleep...

I have managed to concoct a meal from my supplies, I had a bowl of microwave rice with a mug shot pasta stirred through it and a can of sweetcorn added to it, then had a yogurt for afters, it was quite nice actually, and meant I didn't have to stand and cook it for too long... in fact I managed to do the washing up while waiting for the kettle and the microwave...

    Hope everyone is okay....

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    edited 9 July 2015 at 9:08PM
    Evening All

A fantabulous days trade at the shop, around 2 days worth in takings, if not more based on a lot of the bad days we've had recently. Again, who knows why, the sun was out, I'd have expected to be dead, but there we go....never question the money! Doing a very quick tea tonight of cold sausages & salad, after a long soak in the bath, with a cuppa. May even prevail on my husband to make me the tea :)

MotherNerd - How did the viewing go?

Fmess - You can be let off supporting a local business I think (no bias here, whatso ever of course...)

Calling -Brilliant World of the Strange entry. I think it is definately money saving. How often do you buy shampoo now? And as for saving money on not blow drying, well, you could probably find out from your energy company how much it costs to run a hair dryer for 20 mins for example & then calculate how much you've denied them over the time!
I gave up washing my hair for 6 months, using bicarb & cider vinegar, but sadly it didnt work out for me. I never got to the glorious 'no poo' locks my thick hair just stayed greasy throughout. In the end I cracked. But we have had the same bottle of shampoo in our house since we moved in 3 years ago, a large salaon size Tressemme, so I consider that pretty darned cheapskate :) (neither of my male house mates have much hair)
Well done on your debt repayment too! Thats brilliant. I need to find £36 from somewhere to kill my target, but no idea where yet!

Dolly - Well done to your clever son on passing his exams! & to clever DD on her brillliant results too!
We are very tech light in this house too. Son has a tablet, thats all. We replaced our 7 year old TV when it died earlier this year with a Smart TV which we all love because it has netflix on it, but other than that husband and I are both on very old smart phones, & none of us believe in things really. My favourite saying is from The Minimalists 'I am not my stuff. The best things in life arent things'

Traveller - how nice to hear from you. Of course we dont mind non challengers on the thread. How are your house renovations going?

Abundant - I can imagine, when something is with you so intensely for so long, its going to feel very empty without it. But now you have the savings bug, that must feel a very good replacement.

Westie - Another good NSD day for you! Well done.

Dont forget everyone, outdoor days still to log, stretch targets to work towards, & we want to hear your World of the Strange entries!

    Night all

    Bob

    Bake Off Boss!
Evening all. Another SFD today, and got some yoga in tonight before OH got home. Spent the evening making cupcakes for him to take to a colleague's house tomorrow - I don't really mind, but it's a bit hot tonight to be in the kitchen all evening! Going to try to keep spending to an absolute minimum this weekend, as I have two days off next week and need to look for some new work shoes (have had my old ones for four years and they're not really fit to wear any more!).
Hope all other turtles are managing okay in the warm weather :)

Another one here who doesn-t use the hairdrier. But we still keep if for the odd occasion when a visitor wants it, or to use on the cling filmy stuff we put on the windows in the winter. I'm still working my way through a 5 litre container of shampoo and another of conditioner which I've had for many a year! It's 'faith in nature' stuff and has done me well. I wash my hair about twicw a week. Tried going to bicarb and vi egar about this time last year and it was a disaster. I lasted about 3 weeks and my hair got soooo skanky!

But my skincare is simple: cold water for face + neck and mpisturise with evoo; shower with water (d'uh!)then turn it off and scrub up with a mix of sea salt and evoo, rinse and pat dry.

My friends think that the concept of NSDs is weird and are gobsmacked when I tell them how many I've done.

I guess that many thi gs we do are now 'normal' for us - it isonly in describing them to others that their faces tell us otherwise...

Westie - hope you get some answers at the hospital.

Hellooooo Traveller - good to see you!

Mothernerd - hope the viewing went well.

Aiming for another outdoor day on Sat - dd won a place on a trip to Drusilla's at kids klub.
