Hi, does anyone have expeience of any good/bad car sales in Manchester/Cheshire?
Also, I want to take some stuff to one but don't fancy doing it on my own. Is anyone else in the same situation, we could perhaps do one together for moral support?0 -

Now where have I put my hand warmers:D
John
Armed with a car full of [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] valuable old family heirlooms:D my sister and I did two mornings booting at two very large sales:
Sunday:
Apps Court Farm KT12 2GG - 01932 244822. (West Molesey next to a reservoir).
Cars 12 Trailers 5 Vans 17 GBP
Theoretically opened at 07:00 - long access to prevent Q'ing on the road - two entries, one for each direction. Fees collected after establishing pitch. Managed to get enough space to set out the equivalent of 5 paste tables down the side of an estate car. You would have been let in from 6:30 in reality.
With 500+ vehicles including several "professionals" the well organised site had almost too many sellers.
Monday:
Hook Road Arena KT19 8QG - 01372 724568 (More Chessington/Hook than Epsom).
Cars 12 Trailers 2 ? Vans 17 GBP
Advertised as 07:30 probably in reality 06:00.
Q'd outside on main road 07:10 - 07:25 only just managed to get in and grab a 4 paste table length of pitch. Money collected at the pitch.
Advertised as holding up to 700 vehicles totally full to overflowing.
More buyers of the type that needed a booting bargain purchase.
Started raining at about 12:30
Our pitch made over 50 GBP profit at both. The cramped Monday conditions were actually more "fun". You need a gimic to attract punters and something so they can identify you for a last chance attempt to haggle at 13:00. [50p brigade welcome to prevent the bother of carting away the stuff].
Bargain of the sale: The muslim woman who bought all the old duvet covers.
Most uplifting sale: The couple who bought the collection of 1970's angled storage jars, some with damaged or missing lids - they were going to use them as sweet dispensers on the tables at their wedding.
Pile it high sell it cheap!
Will try again next bank holiday.
John
PS If any MSE'rs want to get in ahead or need the bigger stuff - send me a PM0 -

Hi
I think a Carboot sale is a great way to make money but would you ever consider becoming a casual market trader? You could turn up to market on the day and pay something like £20.00 for the day, and you could sell your items in an actual market. You would be guarantee visititors - and it wouldnt be weather dependable as there lots of indoor markets you could trade at.
Just another idea i thought of - hope it helps0 -
Hi,
Myself, mum and sister are planning on pooling all our unwanted goods together and sell at a car boot sale. I thought this might be a good idea as it means we can split the cost of the pitch and have a wider variety of items to attract a variety of buyers. Some of the items that we plan on selling are:- Plus size clothes
- DVDs
- PC games
- Videos
- Toys (ie. Micro Machine sets)
- Unwanted birthday/Christmas
presents (ie. Disney mugs with soft toys, vases, sewing set, radio pen etc - all in original packing)
However, I have recently stripped two of my old computers down (ie. sound cards, mother boards, casing, keyboard, mouse, power supply units etc) and I was wondering if these were the kinds of things that might sell at a boot sale? Since the parts are 4-7 years old, they would sell for only a few pence on ebay and with the P&P it's too much hassle. I'd be quite happy to sell these pieces for say 50p-£1 each. I haven't been to a car boot in about 10 years so I don't know if these kinds of items would sell. Anyone seen anything like this on stalls?
I'm just going to spend plenty of time sorting out my unwanted wares. All these tips have been really helpful so far - it's a really great thread and despite some of the horror stories, I'm quite looking forward to my first boot sale...I just plan on staking out a couple of my local ones first.2010 wins

does any one know of a good car boot sale in cardiff that is on a weekday rather than a weekend?0

I am a carboot sale virgin, but am desparate to de-clutter my house. Can you advise - do I have to book a place at a car boot sale or do you just turn up?
I am in Bristol and know they have regular carboot sales in Keynsham and Bradley Stoke, but don't know whether I have to book a space or not.
Also - do people tend to sell straight out the boot or do they put tables out? :cheesy:0
