Lots of useful advice here. Going to do a car boot this Sunday, as long as the weather is ok. Have done a few in the past and have always made at least £100, but don't have as much stuff to take this time, so going to go halves with my brother and do one together, the car pitch at our local one is £11, which I think is quite steep, they must make a fortune, as it is very busy. Will let you know how I get on.

Firstly thanks to everyones tips on Carbooting....and to everyones personal stories....some of them had me giggling for a while:D

Ive done a couple of them now and found i sold a few bits of plus size clothing, baby toys(mainly like jungle gyms, play mats etc..) jewelry, and lots of cuddly toys.
The things that didnt sell well were board games and CDs.

When we did the carboot sales, i sold a lot of my little ponies and Barbies, and when one was bought i let the child then chose a free barbie/pony brush or outfit/accessory. The kids loved it, and the parents felt like they were getting a good deal....the free stuff was stuff i probably woulndt have got 1p for!! But it cleared aspace, and i sold a few more things to the grateful parents!!!

I also brought batteries with me for the toys that required them, to prove they worked, was selling a CD player, so had it playing in the background, and anything that was big and required building, i kept unbuilt, but had taken pictures of it built and blue tacked them to the item.

Should hopefully be doing another one soon, as have so much stuff like craft beads and baby stuff, and unwanted xmas pressies in the loft :D

Does anyone think it is worthwhile holding a stall for CDs and DVDs? We have quite a lot and hubby thinks it would be a waste of time and probably wouldn't make enough to cover cost of table...
We had been listing them on Ebay but they were not doing well, with some not getting a single bid on start price of 20p....
I really would like to get them out the way though as they are just taking up space

Hi there, the first time we ever had a car boot, we took loads of CD's and it brought lots of people to the table, we did really well selling them. I have only taken the odd one or two DVDs, but have also sold those. As long as they are originals and no copies, they should do fine in my experience.

Hi, first of all I want to say THANK YOU for such a useful thread. I'm thinking of doing my first carboot sale in the next few weeks/months.

I'm not sure how to price the following:

Mills & Boon books (I got almost 200 off Freecycle, precisely for this. They're used but in good condition).

Craft Magazines (Scrapbooking Inspirations, etc). They're all in very good condition, but without the freebies.

I would appreciate any advice, thanks :)

    Meli xx

Its against the principles of freecycle to take items with the intention of selling them on. I freecycle things and would be very annoyed if I spotted any of my stuff on sale at a car boot!

But some people specifically offer stuff on my local Freecycle saying "Box of stuff, suitable for a carboot sale."

Fair enough if you don't want items you've donated being sold at a car boot, but I don't see any harm in someone having a clear out and offering their stuff to a car booter rather than taking it to their local tip?

I've given lots of stuff away on Freecycle and I don't mind if someone keeps it or car boots it so long as it gets used by someone.
