  • Wow - as ever loads of advice on here even about car boot sales!

I've been trawling the loft today to try and tidy it out and there's loads of things I should take to a car boot sale. Tbh, I'm not sure I've got the guts to stand and try and flog my stuff with people (bit of a wallflower), but the advice on here for others has been really good. In terms of clothing, I'll give ebay a try first as I've got some FCUK and Diesel things that no longer fit :o and the thought of flogging them off at 20p a go or so is a bit

Will ask around and try and find the best one in the Edinburgh area to go for.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • Just to add to my last post that I following advice on here, I put the clothes on Ebay and ended up £50 better off!

    Cheers everyone!!!

  • I have been doing bootsales on and off for 20 years when they first started they were excellent but now I find people do want something for nothing, that said if you have something someone really wants then you should get a decent price...people are not stupid they know what stuff is worth but they will try it on. I find clothes sell better off a rail than in a pile unless you are piling high and selling cheap also I am weary of people paying for a fifty pence item with a £20, fakes probably rife at bootsales. I price most things beforehand I find it saves really stupid offers from quality stuff, also I find I sell more at smaller bootsales if you try to sell at huge ones there is just so much choice it often means your takings are lower, also find on hot sunny days when people cant be bothered to rummage at too many stalls I do worse than a day with avergae weather.

The owner of the boot sale site will be the winner.

The most pleasant shopping experience for both sellers and buyers takes place indoors in a shopping mall.

A cold muddy draughty field is an "inferior" experience BUT we must trade to live.

Expect to see "bankrupt" retailers selling from the back of white vans on a Sunday to make ends meet.
Expect families, on short time reduced incomes, both buying and trying to sell.

The farmer will be laughing as he gets the 10 - 15 GBP per vehicle. He may well be able to increase his fee.
The buyers and sellers might find that increased competition reduces prices but also makes formerly unsellable inferior stuff ("jumble" ?) now has a market. [During the boom it was shipped to Africa to bankrupt local manufacturers]
