Anniversary Mr/Mrs Stressedout.
Csarina - Why not ask the Fire Service to do an inspection and ask the question??
Take care
DG
I would except its council property and we could get slung out for causing trouble...........and then we would be stuck........I might well ring the fire service though and see what they say......does anyone have a fireman OH????September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

Hello everyone - have just got back online after nearly a week without any internet, thanks to Virgin Media (wouldn't recommend them:mad: ). Haven't had time to read back through the weeks threads but was thinking about JackieO last Thursday and hope that everything went okay.
DD2 is upstairs "cleaning" her room, so I expect a few bin bags full of rubbish to emerge anytime soon!
Haven't done too well with the grocery budget this week - kids seem to be eating me out of house and home! I did get a load of cheap fruit at the weekend in Sainsburys so I spent Saturday night making jam for the first time in years. I really enjoyed it and now have 7lbs of jam which I am hoping to save until Christmas for hampers. I also made marmalade with one of those tins of concentrated seville oranges - it tastes lovely and I will definitely make more - £1.14 for the concentrate and it made 6lbs of marmalade.
Hope you are all okay - will now go and have a look back at what I have missed over the last week on here.Jane

Just dropped in to say 'hello' in between washing and sleeping.
Back from Luxor but very under the weather due to change of climate, tiredness etc - all self inflicted!
I kept a list of all our spending while we were away, so that really helped as we came back with money left. Please note my halo shining.
See you all tomorrow!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
[edit: csarina - Can you ask exactly what these "H&S" issues are? is it stated somewhere? or is this something they are just saying to make everyone remove their things from lofts?[/quote]
I think the latter is the case, apparently a resident stored somethings in the loft, when they died the loft was not checked and it was quite a long time before anyone went into the loft and found the things...........I am still fuming.........we have a coffee morning tomorrow, I will see who else is affected, I know there will be some........we cannot be the only ones. We are waiting for the SHO to come and see us, to be honest I am not sure how much is up there, our Christmas decs and some special china, several photograph albums.......all things we do not have room to store in the apartment unless I sell my sewing machine and all my fabric..........when you vacate an apartment if you do not clear everything they charge you £300 even if you just leave a curtain fitting up, its stupid................I have a feeling this person has been in charge for some time and is making things up to suit herself, I have not heard a good word about her since we moved in. I had occasion to spek to her when we were stuck in the lift, she tried to make me feel like a piece of c*** under her foot..... sorry she picked on the wrong person..............several things she said I know were untrue..........which is why I suspected what was said about the lofts, in this place you cannot sneeze without the whole place knows about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

Evening :hello:
Sorry to hear some of you are having problems. frogga - those school uniform policies wind me up even though I don't have kids. When I was at school the majority of items (except blazer badge, tie, craft apron and PE shorts and skirt) could be bought from anywhere and tailored to suit the parents' budget. One of the MSE regulars now has a daughter at my old school and they've changed the uniform so it all has to be bought from one (pricey) place
csarina - the suggestion about a fire inspection is a good one. If you find out from a fire officer that it is indeed a safety hazard, and the council continue to ignore this, you can then take it to your MP...
I've sent Penny-Pincher!! a text - if she's been admitted to hospital I will try to get to see her. She is normally treated at King's which is my local.
I thought about going to the Proms tonight but decided on an evening at home instead. Stopped off at Rymans to buy a box of suspension files so am hoping to make some headway into the mountain of muddled paperwork that's currently taking up one side of my living room  Also nicked some bookends from work (with permission!) so I can reorganise the contents of some shelves.
Need to do a general run round and tidy up/clean too. I'm drowning in junk and after the next few days I will be out almost every evening for a few weeks, so I MUST motivate myself to do some productive housework while I can!

Csarina,
I appreciate that you are in sheltered housing and that it is council property, but surely the day is gone when either a question or a protest can be regarded as 'making trouble'? I am presuming that you are paying rent in this apartment (?) To whom is your rent paid? Were you informed that you could use the attic space for storage? In writing? Sorry for all the questions but, I don't need them answered but I think that you should think about the answers yourself, surely the body to whom you pay any rent should decide whether or not the attic space can be used by residents and not some jobsworth with delusions of grandeur. I seems to me very unfair that you should have to dispose of cherished possessions...you use your sewing machine for instance.
Best of luck

Let me claify thiings the sheletered housing complex is owned by the City Council to whom we pay rent. When we moved in we were NOT told that we could not store things in the attic................its not that we do not want to store things but that we want to leave in the attic whats there, we have very limited storage in the apartment, you are allowed to store in an attic in a house, so why not in an apartment.
When you take over a tenancy for the first year you are 'on probation' and can be asked to leave, which is why I do not want to contact the fire dept myself......having said that, I think that if locks ARE fitted to the hatches, should there be a fire in the roof void the fire men will not be able to get in to it............I think personally its a very risky thing to do and I am not sure that the fire service WOULD approve.........we await to see what the next move by madam is..................September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

Hi Everyone
Sorry not been in touch but had to spend a few days with my Mum (82) as she was poorly. Also had DGS1 + 2 last weekend, plus this weekend, Sunday until today. Very busy time. Managed to do a bit of clearing out my back garden and another 5 sacks of garden rubbish picked up on Saturday.
DGS3 piling on the weight but being rather fractious - the 6 week growth spurt I think! I spent ages walking round their house today shooshing to sleep. DD had post natal check up and one thing to watch out for but not too serious - just a bit worrying that she had to go to coloscopy clinic a few years back for lazer treatment. She is aware she has to keep up with her checks. DSIL had 'the operation' last week and still sore! Just heard DS and partner coming over very soon - looking forward to seeing them so much.
Had my re-arranged dental appointments at end of last week - nightmare! Impressions last Thursday, tooth extraction last Friday. New denture did not fit. Wedding on Saturday and I had to buy fixing stuff and did not enjoy food in case teeth came out. Back at dentist on Monday and new denture should be tomorrow. Hence now not back at work until Thursday.
Hope you are all Ok and love, hugs and commiserations to anyone who needs them.
Love
