    Good Morning All

Scuzz - good luck - will have things x'd for you
Elona- Belated birthday wishes for yesterday - hope you had a lovely day.

Its raining and dark here in Essex too. Not too much of a problem as I need to do ironing and cleaning and some paperwork. Need also to go to a big town to sort out new mobile for DD.

Not much else to report - not sure whats for dinner so need to sort that.

    Have a great day.
  • Morning all hope everyone is well! Frogga, i had to buy my son an endeless list last year when he started senior school, however i left the jogging suite untill the weather changed in october as it was needed for outdoor pe, so maybe you could do that and give youself a bit of breathing space to get the money together. It's horrible here today feels like Autumn so no washing out today. Had a really rough nights sleep i've got a sore throat and all my limbs are aching, i hope i havn't got tonsilitis cos it really takes me off my feet. Not doing much today, looking after friends dog for the day as they are moving house and have to go and get daughters dancing stuff ready for september, she grew out of her leotard, ballet shoes and tap shoes all at the same time!!We had the chippy last night for tea as i was feeling so rough and could'nt be bothered to cook. Having a salad tonight with some salmon i think(yellow stickered in asda) Have a good day everyone going to read the rest of yesterdays thread and catch up, Bye for now Sharrron

My DD however is off to high school and they are only allowed to wear specific uniform from the National Schoolwear shop , which is really pricey. We have a list of the stuff she needs and it's endless. I was trying to work out what was the least I could get away with but it's still going to cost me at least £150.

The Polo shirts are £14 can't do with less than 2 surely? How much - £14 is outrageous
Trousers £19 one on and one in the wash I manage with 1 pair - they wash and dry really quickly
Jumper £22 definitly only getting one of these I'd advise you make sure she'll wear it - here boys definitely don't - DS hasn't one

plus a HUGE PE kit list including 4 different pe bottoms ( shorts, skirt, joggers, cycling shorts - what? Mine have a pair of shorts each, and that's plenty. Bet she'll have no more than 3 lessons of PE a week, so most of these will be hardly worn) and 4 different types of footwear (trainers, plimpsoles, football boots and hockey boots - why football and hockey boots - sureley there's no difference unless ou're a professional  ). All these things are compulsory and I bet she'll hardly ever use some of them! And new school shoes!

I'm assuming here it's a state school - if it's private school, please ignore this. CAB were doing a campaign a while back to press for schools to reduce uniform costs, and make all the items (apart from ties and badges, of course) available from high street shops. It might be worth an e-mail to them.

I'd definitley be writing to my MP (PM me if you want details of how to find him/her) you can do this by e-mail.

It's outrageous that state schools can have parents over a barrel like this, and then use the line that if you don't like it you should go elsewhere. No you shouldn't - if it's your local school, it's your child's right to attend, and you not have to contemplate debt or reduction in food to pay for it.

I'm off to start a thread about this somewhere else.

    End of rant ;):o

Good morning to all and thanks for making me so welcome.

Raining here today, being a bit of a misery i'm just glad that its not hot, I really don't enjoy the heat but with being pregnant aswell it makes it even worse, I was dreading the summer but actually i've been really lucky so far.

Just put on the dishwasher which was fixed yesterday :j It cost £80 in the end, i'm quite happy as I thought we might need a new machine, the engineer told me that these machines cost about £700! as its integral, so I can live with £80.

Plans for today, coaxing my dd in to the bath - not very popular recently! Quick clean around downstairs (must have a look at the flylady thread) Then off to see a friend who has a daughter the same age as mine and has recently had a little boy. It will be interesting to see what dd thinks about the new arrival.

This afternoon as the weather is set to be poor we'll be doing some craft things, probably sticking I should think. We may also do some baking, I think i'll have a look for the hobnob receipe I keep hearing about, my dd loves baking or making cakes as she shouts at the top of her voice but she will eat her own body weight in cake mixture!

    Breakfast - toast
    Lunch - sandwiches
Dinner - ? Something with potato's we seem to have loads, maybe veggie shepherds pie

Have a good day everyone, thanks again for the welcome.

Sorry to have wound you up too PP!

Yes, you are right it is a state school!

I did think about not getting a jumper, but she is a little thing and does feel the cold so I think I have no choice.

A friend of mine who has children at the same school says they check their PE kits to make sure that do have the right stuff and I really dont want to embarras her if she hasn't got it. One thing that really annoyed me, you have to have a specific PE jumper. This IS optional , but if it's cold you can't wear a normal jumper so if you haven't got the right one ~ tough!

It's such a stress and no doubt by the time they are both further through the school I wont worry so much , but as she has only just started I don't want to make waves.

I think my Mum is going to help out with the cost of things as she offered earlier on in the year. Don't want to be rude and ask though so I'll just wait a little while and see if she offers again.

A friend did give me some "handmedowns" but the are well worn and faded and the snob in me just wants Holly to have new stuff like all the others. I guess that's not ver OS is it?

Morning Early birds and all who follow
Hope everyone’s fine and dandy, hugs coming your way if not.
    STRESSEDOUTMUM~ HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
SCUZZ~ GOOD LUCK with the job interview, everything’s crossed here!
Had a really rubbish night’s sleep, was thinking about that poor man and his family, near us that was murdered over the weekend. When I did nod off, was woken either by OH snoring and seeming like he was doing an exercise class, or by the rain, pelting down!
Have just dropped OH at work, and have already taken ILO on field for a run.
Got to take MIL’S kitten to vet later, and see about a doc’s appointment, that’s my exciting day
    will pop back after

  • Good Morning,
Hope all is well with everyone.
Scuzz, good luck for the interview - I would say it is really good sign being called in before the closing date. Everything I have two of is crossed!!
Frogga - I work in a secondary school and we are not allowed any more to designate a uniform supplier. Our school has a blazer and it used to cost parents over £90!! Last year the rules changed (thank God as it was a ridiculous situation) and parents can now buy just the badge and get a jacket from Asda - much better.
I would leave the colder aspects of the PE kit for later in the year - kids rarely wear the whole thing anyway and much of our lists are a waste of money *she says furtively looking over her shoulder in case the boss is watching!* Does the school supply any of the bits? All our parents do is buy the bits with a badge on and head to Tesco and Asda for the rest.

OK, my day - DD1 has a friend coming over for a sleepover and I have just realised that our bathroom should carry a gov health warning - of to scrubb heartily! We need to make more of Twink's Hob Nobs as afternoon snacks and a chocolate cake for after tea.
Once the grim weather that we have been promised sets in, the little one and me will be working on her holiday scrapbook - she's got loads of pages to do - too busy enjoying the hol to be writing about it. Luckily the grim weather will focus the pair of us.
DH is setting up a new educational company and so today I need to have a look at one of the handouts - he has a booking in a primary school in Sept and as we are both secondary trained, we are working really hard to make sure that the handout is at the right level for the kids.

I hope that everyone has a great day with much good fortune and happiness.
    Take care,
    Tilly
    xx

    Good morning everyoen,

Up a bit earlier today, as my lovely friend from Barnstaple is coming down with her family for the day (RonanKfan, will try to get her posting again whilst she is here!!!). So we are looking forward to that.

Weather is horrible here at the mo, but i shouldve guessed that it would change now im on my holiday - never mind.

Need to make a couple of chicken pies later, and might do some baking, but it depends on what my friend wants to do - we may pop over to Asda (they dont have one near them) as they have some really good offers on school uniform at the mo. frogga - with things like trousers, will they notice if they arnt the special shops versions? I can understand badged items like tops and jumpers, but normal items like trousers - its disgraceful!!

Well, thats all from me, hope everyone has a lovely day,

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SOMO1
Good luck tomorrow scuzz xx - Oh, i thought of you the other day, whilst i was reading the smart womans guide to money (its the book i won on here, and i would recomend it to EVERYONE, im half way through and it is full of excellent hints and tips, im keeping it for a few years and will be making sure my DD reads it, hopefully the advice will sink in, and she will have a good start in her monitary life!!!) it had a section on asking your boss for more money, and i remembered how much trouble you had a while back with being given extra work, but no extra pay!!! I think Penpen said she had got a copy out of the library, so maybe you could have a look?

    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
