Thank you savingwannabe! I try to be sensible...
I owe everything to my mum & dad for scaring the living daylights out of me when I was 16 - having a chat about 'my generation' and how they were worried I'd never be able to afford my own home..
Ahhhhh payday cannot come soon enough! Living out of tinned beans until Tuesday! :rotfl:FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%
Emergency Savings - £750.00 / £5,000 - 15.00%

Evening everyone!
I passed my first V2L assessment, yay! :j Will start studying for the next unit tomorrow.
I'm really looking forward to this weekend - tomorrow I have a mobile hair stylist coming to my home to trim my locks (finally!) My hair is now lovely & long, but looking a little straggly at the moment. I used a 20% voucher on Wahanda, so it's only £15.00 for a cut & blow dry, which I paid for ages ago.
I normally pay £40.00 going to a salon & have never had my hair done for a mobile stylist though... Watch this space!
Other plans for the day include putting a wash on, planting my flower in the back garden, tending to my vegetable patch and giving my bedroom a thorough clean before my parents and nan kindly pop by on Sunday to feed kitten!
On Sunday morning, I'm going to a christening - with a plus one! It's so far away, it has to be an overnight stay, but he's been a star and as a treat, paid for the accommodation & dinner for us which is included as part of the 'event'.
I'm returning home on Monday morning & have the day off work, so I'll be cramming it full of MS ideas!
Pay day on Tuesday and then at 1:45pm... my interview!!
Currently made the biggest mistake ever & am watching a horror movie, alone, as I'm not sleepy yet, eeeek! Why do I do this to myself :rotfl:FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%
Emergency Savings - £750.00 / £5,000 - 15.00%

Happy Monday everyone!
Well, I have spent my day of annual leave doing... not much if I'm honest! Tended to my veg patch, had a nap, been binge-watching TV, earnt some Swagbucks and have done some surveys. I'm so exhausted after yesterday!
Going to my mum & dads for dinner later and we are all going to Ikea (like it's a family day out hahaha!) I'll be only browsing as it's pay day tomorrow! YAY! :T
I've also been researching the company that I have the interview with tomorrow. I am so, so nervous! I really want this job - it would be exactly the fresh start I need! They have great benefits including: better pay, pension, cycle to work scheme, life assurance, income protection, discounted online shopping and in the heart of a well-known shopping town in Surrey i.e. ideal location and close to where I'm living at the moment!
Eeeeeeep!! :eek:FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%
Emergency Savings - £750.00 / £5,000 - 15.00%

Hi everyone!
I'm quite proud of myself! I went to Ikea last night with the parents & sister and I DIDN'T BUY A THING  Hahaha! I was paid this morning
So, had a half day off work (afternoon), went to my interview () and there were 4 candidates in total - they will let me know at the end of the week... fingers crossed!
Went to Sainsbury's to do my monthly shop & spent £60.00 (it's normally £100!) as I used a £2.50 off voucher & simply by switching products - very happy! :T
Going out for dinner tomorrow night for a friend's birthday, but I've already put some money aside for this & I'm driving anyway so tap water for me!
Waiting for the 1st otm for my interest to be applied to my accounts before I pop more into my savings & update my signature etc... Ahhhhh, feel very content!
I hope everyone else has had a nice Tuesday!FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%
Emergency Savings - £750.00 / £5,000 - 15.00%

Just had a read through of your diary!
Wow, where to start! Firstly, you're probably my inspiration now! I'm about to turn 23 and also live in Surrey (Leatherhead) so appreciate expensive rent etc. the housing here is also crazy, I moved here from Norfolk a year ago and it's been a big shock to the system, I went from always having savings to have to spend all my money just to live! A colleague has just bought a leasehold and the properties are all being sold to investors and go under offer within minutes at times! My main aim is to get debt free so I can start saving for my house deposit, I don't like the idea of relying on anyone else to save with me so I want to do it for myself!
I just got a pay-rise and tbh I'm looking at earning the same salary as you are at your age as a projection for myself, I'm also looking in to taking some additional qualifications as I feel like I'm stagnating in my current position.
Well done on not buying anything in IKEA, I find it almost impossible, I love it there so I've just had to stop going all together, do you go to the one in Croydon? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks Sauceoclock! I turned 26 in May and feel like I don't have much to show for it!
The job I'm waiting to hear back about (hopefully today!! If not, tomorrow) is paying around early - mid £30's so that will really help me!
Wow, to move from Norfolk must have been a REAL shock to the system! Was it for work initially? Well done, if you carry on as you are you will be debt-free sooner than you think!
In regards to learning & gaining more qualifications, look into Vision 2 Learn. Some courses are free - the one I am doing now is free and GCSE equivalent (as you need to work your way up). You are showing (potential) employers your willingness to learn without it eating into your savings PLUS it is a recognised qualification.
Yes, Croydon is my 'local' one! I made a shopping list instead and as and when I can, I will buy little bits from there (like the GORGEOUS table-top pretty greenhouse for my geminating seeds!) £13 - bargain!FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%

I know the exact tabletop greenhouse you're talking about, I'm growing Fennel and Basil atm and I had to convince myself to go to the garden centre and just buy some little pots for 20p, fennel is ready to be transplanted and basil is finally poking it's head out of the pot it's in! Can't wait, free food! I've got 2 plum trees too that need serious picking now as the wasps are starting to steal my spoils!
Will check out Vision 2 Learn, thanks for the heads up! I'd love to pad out my CV a bit and that sounds fab. I'll sign up if anything is relevant!
Huge shock, I went from paying £254 a month rent to £775 and I lived in a lovely house in Norwich and now I'm in a 1 bed flat that needs a bit of love! Despite my pay increase from £15k to £23.5k I still have so much less money now than I did in Norwich... Wish I had been more switched on in 2013, might be in a different situation! Keep with it, you have so much to show for your age.. I won't be in your situation until I'm 30!!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Yay, someone similar to my age who actually enjoys gardening! I love picking my own carrots and lettuce. I feel really proud of myself :rotfl:
Once I have earned a bit of money from Ebay, i'm going to buy a blackberry bush and keep it potted in the garden
I currently have my eyes peeled for either a (2 bed) ground floor maisonette or shared ownership house... Not having much luck at the mo!
I'll keep reading your diary - good luck! :beer:FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%

Happy Friday everyone!
I had a nice surprise last night after coming home from work - the TV licence that I paid for (upfront) whilst in the flat that I previously lived in with my ex is due to expire so I was notified by e-mail a few weeks ago.
I paid for the year in Aug '14 and moved out in January '15 so requested a refund &... hello cheque for £72.00! I'd forgotten all about it!
I'll deposit that into my main current account tomorrow and distribute that between my House Dep. fund and my ISA & buy a pair of work shoes I've seen for less than £20.00 (will also gain cashback via Quidco) - my heels for work are so worn but they look shabby and as I'm job hunting, I can justify a pair or work shoes!
Today is the day I hear whether or not I have a new job.. feeling so sick right now!:eek:FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%
Emergency Savings - £750.00 / £5,000 - 15.00%
