sauceoclock wrote: »So we get more and more similar by the day! I found out a month ago I am infertile and I have a tumour in my brain that is causing havoc amongst my hormone levels. I too have moments where I get really cross because I want to have a family in my 30's rather than my 20's and Dr's told me I will only be able to get hormone therapy in my late 20's and it's unlikely to work anyway. Big big cuddles for you! I do have moments like you do when I get really down and I have days where I ask people not to send me photos of babies etc. as it gets me down.
Secondly.... I like to try and remind myself once a day 'you cannot take it with you'. I also really want to own a home but sometimes it's good to remember than when you pass away (i know this sounds so morbid but it's really true) you cannot take your money or your house with you - instead you leave behind memories with your friends and family. So try and breath and give yourself some space, you've done fantastically well, most people our age are in debt, myself included and you've got huge savings for a house deposit already, you're already ahead of the game so give yourself credit!
Morning Sauceoclock!
Frightening how similar our stories are getting!
I'm so sorry to hear about your news! *hugs!*
I got in from work last night & had a long phone call with my dad (my parents are equally as frustrated). They want to help, but can't and in all honesty, I wouldn't want them to put themselves in that position.
The OH came round last night and he is my complete opposite... We've been together for 4 years, lived together for a few months and split up in December.
We've been apart for about 8 months and have decided that ultimately, we love each other but there are things we need to iron out and change.
One of which is: Can he actually clear his debt?
The answer is of course, yes, but he is terrible with his money and this was a major issue prior to us splitting up.
So we sat together and made an 'action plan'. I'm holding my breath to see if he sticks to it.
I gave him a short list of things 'to do' such as close his dormant accounts, rename his online accounts names that will be easy to remember.
He (finally, after years of badgering) allowed me to read his online accounts... Although what I, would consider as 'bad' for a 25 year old - as someone who has never been in debt - it's doable IF he really wants to clear it.
He has nearly £6k on his CC & just under a grand on his overdraft.
We went through every expenditure (next to nothing as when we split up, he moved back home - rent free), so food, car insurance & maintenance, Netflix, petrol (biggest expense), monthly allowance for socialising and car finance.
Irritatingly, he wanted to budget a lot for socialising but I had to really stress... what do you want more? This cleared so we can actually have a future together or beers with your mates?
(I think I may have a problem as I can't actually get my head around how people don't think the same) LOL
So I've sent him his spreadsheet and asked him to check this weekly (minimum) and I will do it for him should he come over and (hopefully together), we'll do this. Watch this space...
I on the other hand, am carrying on upwards, looking at SO homes and my job for my 'spare time' this weekend is to make a list of every EA in the areas in Surrey I want to live in and register and set up property alerts.
Tonight when I get home from work, I MUST complete and submit my Unit 2 Assessment for my NVQ & for a treat I'll be watching 'Not Safe For Work' :jFTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%

Sounds like a positive action plan for you and your OH. You’re right in the sense that it is a waiting game to see if it has any impact.
I sat with my ex and we drew up all his finances and he just ignored it and carried on as he was so I have everything crossed for you that you can get this sorted. It sounds like he’s willing to make a change so I have a good feeling about it.

Me too. It just shows what strong characters both of you are Lala and also sauceoclock. What a cool name!!!
Girlies have you read The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley? I think you can pdf it for free from google. It is pretty simple but mind blowing at the same time. Make your partners read it. It will knock some sense into them. :money:
Now I have a garden to mow. One man (ok I'm not but it sounds better as a song) went to mow, went to mow a meadow...sing after me:rotfl:Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -

Hi Lala2015! Firstly I just wanted to say I think you are doing amazingly well. I'm 26, and only just started to think of saving, I work for a charity so expect a bad salary and have a partner with a great salary who ignores bills and spends it on cars and motorbikes rather than saving! Instead of getting a job I decided go to uni, and then travel and volunteer with Born Free out in Africa, I didn't get my first full time job till 24! So At 26 I have £500 in savings to my name so you should be really proud of what you have achieved so far! I don't regret my earlier choices but I have made it hard on myself to achieve my goal of owning a house!Comp Wins on Twitter to Date: 20 Prizes!

I do sometimes wonder that maybe I should have done what you have - university and travelling/volunteer work.. as we're in the same boat regardless of the savings (obviously, you have the benefit of having earned qualifications, I do not as I left school at 16!)
Even with my savings, I definitely cannot afford a home yet (in the dreaded SE!)

Evening everyone!
So I'm quite chuffed today with my little victories!
I have LOADS of watchers on EBay for my items. I tried actually 'modelling' my clothes instead of just taking pictures of the clothes on the hangers and now have watchers and/or bids for nearly every item (which is a nice change!)
I changed up £20.00 in silver change today and transferred an additional £30.00 straight into my house deposit fund, bringing it back up a little to £27,650.00 - slowly does it!
I also had two calls about jobs (since I have stopped applying!)
I'm going say no outright to one as it's about £5k less than what I'm on now, but it's a shame because it sounds good! Regarding the other one - I have a FaceTime call with the recruiter tomorrow morning before she puts my CV forward, so excited for that!FTB House Deposit - £28,505.00 / £40,000 - 71.26%

Happy Saturday everyone!
I hope everyone os having a good weekend!
Last night the OH came over with a beautiful bunch of roses which are now sitting proudly on my living room table, along with one of those take-away indian meals from the supermarket (I think it's about £9 for a complete pack for two people), so that made our 'date night' and was a little treat.
We discussed his debt and it's finally dawned on him how much of a sacrifice he'll need to make (i.e. it's his friend's birthday at the end of the month and he's realised he shouldn't go - he'd have to pay £25 for the ticket -races-, then there are drinks, travel, overnight stay e.t.c).
Overall, he's feeling quite positive as he has a commission based job and is very good at what he does, and he's looking forward to receiving some back-dated commission which will really help him clear his debt.
I think what he's finding difficult is that he is a very social individual (and that's part of the reason he has so much debt) and I really am quite introverted and can go for long periods without 'going out'.
I have faith, he's asked me to leave it to him for a month and then 'he will show me' what he's done. Still early days so I'm apprehensive. I don't know about you other Money Savers, but I'll admit I am a bit of a control freak, therefore having to reply on someone else for a result sometimes makes me a tad nervous! :rotfl:
Today we've been sensible and made the most of the nice weather and stayed in, but done some cleaning and gardening. I've tended to my vegetable patch and planted my courgettes, so another 'free food' addition that I'm looking forward to having at my fingertips!
I think we are venturing out tomorrow, maybe just for a walk into town or to the local public gardens.
The property I was looking to view today has had an offer accepted and made, so my viewing was cancelledOh well. I'll keep looking!
I also need to re-jig my CV at some point this weekend and catch up on surveys!
On another note, a lot of my Ebay items are due to sell, so that a bonus. I think I'll not count the money in my PayPal until I've reached a threshold, then deposit it all into my 'house fund'.

So nice that you had roses, had a good chat and also have helped him plan for your future. It sounds so positive!!!!
:money:
Glad to hear you are growing courgettes, my mum planted some a while ago and they have come up a treat. and all I do is water them.
I did lots and lots of washing and dried in the glorious heat. I tried to get a tan on my legs, then it got too hot and I had to come in! I am an Asian with really pale legs lol!!!!
I have a few fleabay sales tomorrow which is good for my huge credit card bill of holiday spending over the last month. I hope the good weather lasts and you have a lovely weekend. :beer:Aiming for a minimal spend 20220
