  • I notice that you haven't ever mentioned what your illness is. You don't have to of course, but its highly likely that at least one other person who reads this forum will have it too, or have experience of it, and might be able to offer more specific support and advice if they knew.

I don't think this is a spoof either, but I do think you need to be a bit careful about how you're communicating with people here, they aren't obligated to reply or to help you and they might just stop if all they get back is abrupt dismissive responses.

I just get very annoyed and angry when people are accusing me as a spoof. I can't cope with comments like that.
I try and take on help from here but sometimes I know personally it can't be done.

You can ignore those comments, nobody expects you to answer those, I was referring more to your replies to people genuinely trying to be helpful. Have a read back maybe and imagine yourself receiving them as responses, if you were a stranger on here trying to help.

OP, you really are making things worse for yourself by not letting your OH know about the debt. It would be a huge weight off your mind if you could tackle it together, you're carrying it all yourself which isn't helping you. It's just a huge vicious circle, you have debts, you're fed up, you shop, more debt. The small savings you are making at the moment aren't really going to make much difference if your OH isn't on board, one takeaway a week is nearly £60 per month !!! Do you have £60 per month spare ? I'm not in debt but i'm a single mum on a tight budget, and i wouldn't spend that on takeaways.

IMO if there is no honesty in a relationship, the relationship is doomed.

Hi Use Less Now (see what I did there?).

Well done on your no spend days.

Just wondered if you'd taken on board anything in my (and others') posts about trying something new?

  • Hi ShirePiskie
I have re read all the suggestions made to me and made a list.

I managed to walk down to the post box on Saturday. I struggled walking back up but I stuck with it and didn't ring oh to pick me up. I am frightened of walking down there as one time I fell down and couldn't get back up. Luckily I had my phone to ring oh. Will try it again when it is a little bit cooler.

Today I am meeting parents for lunch at a local shopping centre. I am only taking the money I need to buy fresh salad items. No cards. I gives me some exercise walking around with parents.

I have written down a meal plan for this week. I don't need any ingredients.

I can't remember if I have done anything else.

    Thanks for your ideas

Great idea and nice to hear you sounding positive. Well done on taking on board suggestions and good luck on keeping within your budget.

Have a nice time with your parents. I hope they are supportive. Do they know you are trying to save money or are in debt? You do not have to let them know the scale of things just that you are being careful. It just makes it so much easier when the people around you are not encouraging you to spend as they are unaware of your circumstances.

One thing I have found is with this hot weather fresh food seems to go off so much quicker so I am just buying small loaves of bread or freezing half and smaller amounts of salad and fruit but buying more often. Markets are great places to get this cheaply and usually very fresh as well rather than the supermarkets. Also exercise and getting out of the house helps with depression if you are up to it physically and do not need to spend out on fares, petrol etc.

  • My parents don't know about my debts. They would be horrified. When I am out with them I never get to pay for anything.

I have to drive to get anywhere, we have no local buses and my parents live 5 miles away.
