Hi, Now (see what I did there), how's it going?

What's for dinner from the cupboards/freezer tonight?

Keep us updated, even when things are feeling bad, you'll get someone posting a kind word on here.

I am feeling a little bit down today but still plodding along.

Dinner tonight is a portion of homemade lamb casserole from the freezer for OH with potatoes and veg. For me it is pasta and peppercorn sauce. Followed by strawberries and Greek yogurt.

Just on way out to collect prescriptions and need some petrol before it rains again.

Re menu planning, I do a loose plan, i.e I plan meals for the week, but don't specify which days they're for.

    Do you use online banking?

The best way is to just get a list of all your standing orders and direct debits. If you don't use online banking, your bank will provide this for you.

Hey, sounds like you are having a better week- planning /thinking of new ideas/ finding 22p ! :)

For meal planning- I write on my fridge with a dry-wipe pen all the meals I can make with what I have in, then pick one the night before so I have time to defrost /soak stuff etc.
I can't stick to a rigid week plan either.

You are doing so well, keep posting !

Come on, you are not dim! :) We all have to learn to do this :)

What we do is think up 5 meals, say, for a week. get all our shopping in to make those meals. Then we say OK, tomorrow let's have X, and make sure everything is out defrosting during the day. We don't stick to a meal for certain days, but we do make sure we use up our shopping before we go back for more groceries. What helped us loads was to raid charity shops for cooks books, like the Jamie ones. Some of them give good meals using cheap and easy to find ingredients. For example, you can cook a curry for 4 people easily on less then a fiver. Also, watch the food network channel, free on freeview... we've picked up loads of tips on there. Saved us hundreds I'd say in grocery shopping :)

£75 (or whatever the amount was) is quite a lot to spend in a day, but it's easily done. Also we don't know how recently your situation has changed so it can take some time to adjust your mindset, now that things have changed.
Definitely try and get out as much as possible, whether it's volunteering, a craft club, going for a coffee somewhere (at a social club or council run activity, church activity rather than at a high street coffee house).
Libraries are a great a free source of books.
Your home life and medical illness sounds tough, is there anyone you can talk to about this? Any friends or family?
I have to go for now or I'll be late for work but think about this - due to your illness there will undoubtedly be many things you can't do, but focus on what you can do.
    Stay positive.
