Morning all
It's sunny here at the moment but heavy rain is forecast for Tuesday & Wednesday, so hubby will probably be unable to work, I think this is the last week of work he has, for 6 to 8 months. Still I've stashed away as much of his wages as I can & hopefully we have a new lodger coming at the beginning of September.
Next weekend is going to be hectic, we have a 50th party to go to on the Saturday & DSS is arriving with GF on the Sunday, they are catching the ferry from Ireland & arrive with us around 2 or 3 in the morning, I'm hoping they remember their door key, otherwise I'll have to get up & let them in.
There isn't much to do to get ready for them, the bed is all made up in the spare room, I'll just give the room a dust & vacuum later on this week.
Today I'm of to the post office with 6 parcels & 2 letters, for Ebay & Amazon, I think DD2 & DGS will be over later today if the weather stays fine.
My DD1 popped in yesterday with some stuff for Ebay, some books, CD's & a weight bench, it's huge & I hope someone buys it as I can't get to my sewing machine till it's gone. Still I shan't complain as she doesn't want a share of the proceeds, just want's rid of it.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Good morning all!
Had the cheesecake last night; needs work on the recipe. Managed to cut it in 4 and put 3 pieces back in the freezer (they were still frozen) Will try it again! The pasta was good as well, and lots of sauce left over; may use it to bake chicken in on Wed. if friends come over. My freezer is full; but its the one in the fridge, so will be getting electricians to come out and quote to run the electric line to the outbuilding then I can have a chest freezer + the dryer in there.
And all of those who read and don't join in -- we dont bite! We'd love to meet you!
Hester, can't your partner do something else while he's off over the winter?? 6-8 months seems a long time to wait for the next job! Esp if it hard on you 2 to live in the meantime........ (not being nosy, but concerned!)0 -
Good morning everyone! Feel a bit dopey this morning, having got up at 2am to see the Perseid meteor shower. Very clear night, no moon, so brilliant display. I almost started the thread then (as I had been to bed) but my warm bed was calling!
Taking DD to the doctors today. She was a bit better yesterday, but has eaten virtually nothing since Friday morning, due to a raging sore throat, so she'll be fading away soon.
Hoping to have friends round for supper (she's just passed some really big exams) so have beans soaking, and will be putting steak into the slow cooker for a chilli. It's a Delia recipe with avocado, coriander, tomato and lime salsa. Have lots of plums in the garden, so DS will make a crumble with them.
Hope to spend some of the last dry day of the week in the garden.
Have a great day, Penny. x

Morning all
Didn't get chance to post at the weekend, but the news is that I am now a Grandma :j :j :j
Dgd arrived on Friday, two weeks early weighing 6 lbs 9 oz, and she is absolutely gorgeous (not that I'm biased)It's surreal watching your child cuddling their child, especially when you still feel like a 20 year old.
Off to work today to bore everyone rigid with lots of photos, hope everyone has a good day xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

Hi Odds
Thanks for your concern, hubby is partially sighted & suffers from tinnitus, so finds it hard to get work. We've tried various schemes but no luck. Last time we went to the job centre, they sent him for an interview as a dust man, the interview lasted about 2 minutes, they needed someone with a full driving license, which hubby doesn't have. He lost his eyesight in an industrial accident 14 years ago & had to give up his license then. We returned to the job centre to be told they felt hubby was being difficult! They then sent him for a warehouse job, where everything was barcoded & he's have no trouble as scanners were used to pick the stock. He lasted 2 months, they didn't use scanners, he was expected to read the barcode numbers in a badly lit warehouse. He spent 2 months being shouted at by the warehouse manager as he kept making mistakes as he couldn't see. We returned to the job centre yet again to be told they had nothing else appropriate. There is supposed to be someone at the job centre who deals with disabled applicants, unfortunately they do not seem to be able to find someone to fill the post at out local job centre. So we struggle on.
Hester
