    She sounds very rude.

You won't be alone; others at work will have noticed it too and be uncomfortable with it even if they don't show it.

Yip, even her close mate said sometimes she feels embarressed by her rudeness

Can't you just nod, smile and basically ignore her?

It always annoys me when people say "Be the bigger person" or "Ignore them" because they then carry on doing what they are doing with no redress. Why not threaten her with HR, at the very least if she gets enough warning's she will either stop doing what she's doing or get fired.

You may be able to handle her behaviour but what if she does this to someone who can't and it ends up ruining their lives.

"Lovely top.....My Mum has one just like it"
"Real men like curves not sticks"
"Really ?...... Your insecurities are showing again Luv"

Actually just ignore her -she's clearly very insecure size 12 is hardly fat. When even your supposed best mate thinks you are a !!!!! you've not got much going for you. She obviously thinks she's still in high school .

Next time she says anything, stop everything, look her straight in the eye and say 'Wow, you're rude'. Then keep staring at her. Do not break eye contact.

Do it every time. No heat, no anger, just 'Wow, you're rude', then stare until she caves.

    She'll learn...

Glad I am not the only one, I wouldn't hesitate to tell this colleague to wind their neck in and, it isn't appropriate or remotely humorous.

Reminds me of the advice I was given when It was discovered I was being bullied at school.

    1. My mother advised - Tell a teacher (Yeah right !)|
    2. My Auntie advised - Ignore it and they will get bored (Yeah right)
    3. My Granddad advised - next time they start, launch yourself at the ringleader and give it everything you have, you might cop a shoeing and a detention or 3 but they will know your not going to just take it any more.

    Guess what worked?

I detest bullies, but the OP by her own volition has instigated the banter and it has now got out of hand, she'd be on sticky ground complaining to HR. Not knowing the personalities I would say that the girl that is being vile has got some serious issues, nobody wants to be hated.

I knew someone like this. She was always immaculately dressed and in fact, had the lowest self esteem and was very insecure. As far as she was concerned, if she made someone look bad, it made her look good. She would even do this with total strangers, pointing at anyone over weight, even complaining to a waiter his acne put her off her meal.
She had one work colleague she hated, he was the only man in an all woman department and when it came to nasty comments he always had a reply! She ended up slapping him, formal complaints being made and losing a £800 bonus.

I don't know what to suggest I'm afraid, I ended up cutting this person completely out of my life, not that she could work out why! a mutual friend actually told her it was because she was !!!!!y - over time numerous friends had met her and distanced themselves (she knew it was due to her attitude), she actually didn't have many (if any) friends and knew this was because of how horrid she could be.

Sadly, even if you were to point out how horrible she is, I don't think she'd stop. If you reply with a witty !!!!!y comment, she can argue you're as bad as she is. Possibly keep a note of comments with dates / times (if she's been close to formal disciplinary action it won't be long before it happens again) and take comfort that you won't be the only one of your work colleagues that can't stand her.

Try, 'Gosh, when you got out of bed this morning did you decide to be a !!!!! or does it just come naturally?'

Thing is, I bet all your work colleagues are thinking the same- they don't like her/it but either are a) too afraid to say something or b) don't want her to turn her attention onto them.

You might find you are a hero if you tell her straight!

I would use the word unkind. Every time she says something, try 'wow, that was a bit unkind wasn't it?' If she says it was a joke, try in a deadpan voice, 'not really.'
