    Tolerable, not pleasurable.

Surely holidays are meant to be pleasurable, not simply tolerated?

A flight is generally how you get to a holiday rather than the holiday itself.

Indeed, but most if not all people consider flights to be part of the holiday experience.

Unless you hate flying and it becomes a mean to the holiday experience, the part to just get over with to enjoy the rest.

. I am trying to help him overcome his fears not make them worse.

But does he want to overcome his fear about the flying at the moment?

I realise you want to help him, but your posts do come across as a little overbearing ie. you MUST fix this for him as you need to go on holiday.

There is the small possibility he may never want, or will, step on a plane again.

Please don't get me wrong, I do sympathise - my husband is the same, but at the end of the day I love him, and if it means I never get on a plane for a holiday again, I can live with that because there are other alternatives.

Leave him be for the moment. And take a look at this website, which I found invaluable for planning our train holidays -
http://www.seat61.com/index.html - why not travel to Spain, Greece, or the South of France - you can have your hot holiday, and he doesn't have to step on a plane :)
