I have not had the email from BT but read about this issue on another forum. I contacted BT via Live chat and the support guy said " I can assure you your account will not be changed automatically and will only be upgraded if you ask it to be" I saved the web chat but need not have bothered as it was emailed to me. I have watched BT sport but not very often as I am rarely in when the top matches are on.
I renewed my BT infinity 2 about a month ago as they offered me a good discount and also got a 4G sim off them for my mobile. BT asked me if I was interested in BT TV and I told them I was happy with my (superior) Humax Freesat box.
Sky are not a viable alternative for me as I have used them before and had problems.with their supplied equipment.0 -

I couldn't agree more.
I have a feeling BT have made a massive blunder in purchasing the premier league and now the Champions League, and it will turn round and bite them in the backside.
I can see no way they can ever compete against Sky, and BT TV can only ever be an also-ran when compared with Sky, Virgin Media, Freesat, Freeview and even TalkTalk TV."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. I guess thats made up my mind then. I am currently looking at upgrading to fibre. I phoned BT last week to see if i could get a decent deal. I got the hard sell about having 3 sports channels free if i took infinity with them (other option i am looking at is sky). Dont like being directly lied to. Looks like BT can **ck off. I wont be renewing with them.
Check out SSE FOR FIBRE broadband it can't be beaten,
£12.50 fixed for 2 years. and £12 phone line rental.
Thus £24.20 for 80mb fibre and phone line. Now thats a deal.
BT once i leave i am not returning.0 -
I got an e-mail yesterday '
Important BT Sport update'
which mentioned a five pound a month charge and very small print at the bottom of the e-mail saying: 'If you want to end your BT Sport subscription, you need to contact us by 31 July 2015'
I have absolutely no interest in Sport, and it just came 'free' with my BT Infinity but I've never used it, so I got onto BT via an online chat session and they removed it from my package.
You are MISSING A BIG TRICK HERE.. USE this increase to get out of your contract .. thats what i am doing I HATE SPORT. But I'm using it to get out of my BT contract and moving to SSE Fibre package which is £16 a month CHEAPER than BT ..0 -

Err no. For every £1 Sky has, BT has 2.poppasmurf_bewdley wrote: »I can see no way they can ever compete against Sky, and BT TV can only ever be an also-ran when compared with Sky, Virgin Media, Freesat, Freeview and even TalkTalk TV.
No again (but Freesat? really???). But where this threads concerned, everyone has the right to cancel and invoke that right giving thirty days notice.0 -
One thing that has not been mentioned so far. If you do nothing and pay the £5 a month charge; are you deemed to have entered into a new 12 months contract from August 1st?0

Not had the email yet, will wait a few weeks to try to be clear on what the terms of the offers are. I'm not a sport fan, had it because it was free and could connect my chromecast to it, I've watched the odd evening UFC fight but not enough to warrant paying £60 a year.
I've no interest in paying for sport so was minded to downgrade to Lite, but I'm put off by talk of downgrading locks you into another 12 month (broadband?) contract - this doesn't make sense on why not state this clearly as being part of the deal and if this if part of the deal why not include the 3rd option to unsubscribe for BT Sport - this doesn't come across as good customer service and BT opting instead to hudwink us on the marketing of the email. Also I've read that the BT Sport app will only work for those on the £5 per month deal, as it's the only way I currently watch then cancelling BT Sport looking the best option for me.
I'm currently out of contract with BT broadband, keep getting regular phone call and mailshots to try and persuade to sign up for another 12 months in exchange for a free modem, although would have to pay £7 to have it posted to me, isn't a good deal for locking in for another 12 months. The odd marketing call from BT has been shocking where they've implide that being outside the 12 months lockin period would incurrent additional charges for broadband - totally false.0 -

If you are outside your contract, then BT will not be providing you with free BT Sport, whether Lite or Euro, unless you have specifically agreed a deal with BT to provide these for you free of charge. However, if you are out of contract I cannot see you still being in a deal.
As has been repeated several times on here and other forums, downgrading to BT Lite does not commit you to a further 12 month contract."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry.
