Yes, that is what Apple proposes. However, once you start doing that, there won't be much left of the original watch. It would be like Trigger's broom.

The Watch Edition other than the case is the same as "The Watch". How much an upgrade will cost I guess in part depends on if the sapphire face has to be replaced or not.

Certainly disagree with the other poster that people that can afford a £12k watch can afford to buy one each year, many people stretch their budgets for gold watch with the intent that its a big initial outlay with a modest ongoing cost of servicing.

Assuming the top doesnt have to be replaced you'd expect the replacement circuit to be circa £300 and so still a notable amount to be spending each/ every other year but in a very different socioeconomic group than those that can afford £12k a year.

Yes, but does that apply to people buying an Apple Watch? Anyone who's stretched their budget to buy one is truly crazy. We don't even know if the thing can be upgraded (do we?).

The sales figures for the Edition are tiny. It's beyond niche. In the US it accounts for only 0.06% of total sales - that's under 2000 sold compared to over 3,000,000 for the cheaper ones. Those figures don't suggest everyday folk are buying it to me.

I didnt know, it makes sense to me that it would but others here claim to be more in the know than me and say it is the case.

And do you think every day folk buy JLC gold watches for £12,000? The people that buy a £12k watch every year are different to those that buy a £12k watch once and then spend £300 every couple of years maintaining it.

Actually JLC typically charge about £900 for a service and recommend its done every 4 years (plus it takes 3 months!) so actually could be very comparable to the Apple costs though with JLC you just end up with a watch that keeps time where as with Apple you'd in theory be getting new functionality.

As far as I know talk about upgrading hardware is just speculation. For a company that loves to make its products obsolete I think it's unlikely. A battery change? Yes, but a whole new watch? I doubt it.

I think the key thing is that people who buy watches from makers such as JLC (had to google) know they're going to keep the watch for many years. I find it very difficult to believe that people buying an Apple Watch Edition think the same. Even if the innards can be upgraded, the next Apple Watch will be thinner, and the one after that will be even thinner (and so on...). The current one is going to look very dated very quickly.

People who buy the Apple Watch Edition aren't discerning consumers, but rather conspicuous consumers. It's the same watch with a gold case, and the gold case isn't worth £11,000. It's a statement, as tragic as that seems to me. They're not going to want the statement in three years time to be "look at my out of date watch".

Are there no Apple Watch Edition owners on here to help us understand the mindset?!:)

I have yet to see a person in real life wearing an Apple watch.

I would never spend 12k on a smart watch, spending that amount of money, you want it to last for many many years, and to be able to pass it on.

And to walk around with the gold Apple watch, you would look like a flash fool.

I saw someone trying to use Apple Pay at Boots... There were only 2 tills open; in the time it took the guy to pay for his stuff using AP, the other cashier dealt with 3 customers who were paying with cards or cash the usual way. If it works that well, or people that incompetent using it, it's going to be a right PITA.
I have no iStuff so won't be using it anytime soon :rotfl: I barely have a use for contactless as it is.

Did you see what caused the delay? If the user pre-authorises the payment by going into Passbook and doing the fingerprint, it's as least as quick as a contactless card. It can in fact be slightly quicker than a contactless card because the iPhone is powered by a battery and so its NFC is more powerful than a contactless card.

I have no idea sorry. The guy took his phone out, put it on the reader and then b*gger all happened by the looks of things and then he spent ages fiddling with his phone before it worked whilst everybody in the queue was getting irritated.

Having used Apple Pay 16 times yesterday, I found that it is much quicker to pre-authenticate the transaction. It sounds as if this guy didn't do so, hence the delay.

Same thing happened when the BBC tried to use it, if it takes longer its a waste of time.

I wish people would anaylyse something fairly, the pros and cons rarther than having to dicuss to Apple fan boys (not so much on here, but in other forums its really bad).
