Apple Pay

When travelling on TfL, every second at ticket barriers makes a difference. If passengers are fumbling with their wallet or purse for a few seconds, they hold up everyone else. The problem with placing one's wallet on the card reader is card clash. Most people have more than one contactless card, and therefore the wrong card can get charged. In the case of TfL, if different cards are used at the beginning and end of the journey, then TfL doesn't identify it as a single journey, and both cards are charged the maximum fare. Apple Pay eliminates these problems, particularly as many people are already reading their iPhone when travelling on public transport, thanks partly to the free wifi on the Tube.
Not a problem we non-Londoners face very often. But when I am in London I carry a slim wallet with just an oystercard in it for the tube. And I'm quick on the draw.
I'm also far too busy gaping, bewildered (us country folk are easily impressed/horrified), at the number of people trying to cram into one carriage. I couldn't be actually reading a smartphone at the same time - the entertainment is in the people-watching.0 -
I pay for my haircut with my American Express card. I would use Apple Pay next time, but it's more than £20 and they probably haven't yet upgraded their software to remove the £20 contactless limit for Apple Pay.
There is no "software" for them to update, the limits on contactless payments is broader than Apple. In September all contactless, inc ApplePay, will go up to £30 limit.
Need to see how ApplePay and AmEx will work together in terms of both (a) Merchants that accept AmEx C&P but not Contactless (eg Eat) and (b) Merchants that dont accept AmEx at all. The people on their live chat believe it works identically to using the card itself but wasnt very sure or convincing.0 -

The £20 (and later £30) transaction limit applies to one-factor authenticated contactless payments. For two-factor authenticated contactless payments (e.g. Apple Pay), there is no limit. The latest software allows terminals to distinguish between one-factor and two-factor authentication.0 -
Santander have a lovely new app to go with Apple Pay- Spendlytics.
I haven't seen similar for Nationwide, although it might be hidden in their mobile banking app which I haven't installed.
I've downloaded this app and it's excellent. It shows a great amount of detail (including purchases made using Apple Pay but not yet on your statement.)
Have used it successfully in my local Co-Op this morning; was really quick (and I could've saved time if I'd realised I didn't need to open Passbook first!)It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I absolutely love Apple Pay!! I made all sorts of small purchases today in various shops today and it worked a treat everywhere. It's fantastic to have an instant record of all the spending, and I can finally make contactless payments with my non-contactless Nationwide credit card. Marvellous.
I think I 'need' an Apple Watch now, to save me from having to fish for my phone in the depths of my handbag!
What do the experts say - is buying the watch now a good idea or will the current models be obsolete within the next 12 to 18 months?0 -

Its a new category for Apple so everyone is unsure when they will release a second Apple Watch. People don't tend to buy new watches that often. So a yearly update might not be that sustainable. I can see them maybe releasing the Apple Watch 2 along side the iPhone 7 in Sept 2016 and then releasing new models with each 2 year iPhone cycle - so not with the 's' releases.0 -

Think that is because their contactless reader doesn't support Amex Contactless, only Visa and Mastercard. There is no Amex logo on it.0
