I used to think that, but now I think (obviously all just personal opinion!) - from a financial perspective - they can be.
A lodger doesn't have a share of equity in your home, therefore someone who is (in the financial sense only), paying their share of bills (NOT mortgage), boyfriend/girlfriend/friend etc should not either. ESPECIALLY if they have in no way contributed to you getting on the ladder to begin with.
Hmm I'm not so sure about that. A boyfriend or girlfriend would be living with you as one household. That's not the same as a landlord/lodger relationship. A lodger could claim LHA but a boyfriend/girlfriend couldn't for example. A lodger would be an excluded occupier whereas a boyfriend/girlfriend wouldn't be.
Certainly you could move a partner in and they can help with bills (excluding the mortgage) but if they contribute towards the mortgage payments, through rent for example, they could be building up a beneficial interest in your home.0 -
If he were putting money towards the loan/cc then no wonder he couldn't save. Once it's paid off he'll be able to put that money into the house won't he? As long as he's learned his lesson about debt of course, which surely he has?0
