To be honest, it would be far better if they took the site down until they've fixed it, rather than the users having to come in each day and 'test' it and find it still very annoying to use.

'Your request timed out' again. Of course it did!!

From the issues I saw earlier this week, my guess is that the site had fallen victim to a DDOS attack
I did see a post several days ago (quickly removed) saying 'Send £1,000 or we'll launch a DDOS attack'.

Perhaps MSE didn't send the money?

All you can really say is how it is working for you.

Similarly, all I can say is how it is working for me.
And for me, it is working fine under the 'old look'. :D
I've not been using the 'new look' today, as (AFAIAC) it is never 'fine'. ;)
What a stupid, unhelpful thing to post.

No, fixing the site is the answer. Copy, paste and retrying is a massive waste of everyone's time (and retyping when you forget to copy is a bigger waste).

    Why?
The site is working fine for me (on the old version, using several browsers).
    That point should be made.
If all that people read are posts that are uniformly saying that the site is unusable, they will start to call for the whole site to be taken down (as someone has) - which in my view is unnecessary at this point.
(If it is necessary to fix the problem, that is different.)

What would be most helpful would be for MSE to 'come clean' on what the problem actually is ... so that users could try to come up with appropriate 'work arounds' for those worst affected.

    Nope. Still not fixed.

    Guessing its a DDOS attack.

Not if you go by the number of 'guests' on the site - which was the obvious indicator the last time there was a DDOS attack.
The number of guests has been within the usual range during these problems.

Can't be that because MSE sent me the £1,000 :D

Still having problems! and I'm using the old format. Not so much with the timed out thingy, but the pages taking ages to load then getting the page not found' message.

    Really really annoying!

Edit: spoke to soon, just got timed out and had to refresh.
