You have to download and install the UK English Voice/text/handwriting packs for Cortana to work correctly!

It's somewhere in the language and region settings (not got my Win10 box on and Just heading out...

Search for "Install Language Packs" that should give you the correct screen to go to and install the UK ones.

Double check your region defaults are set to UK then it should work...

I think so, under Region & Language, Country or region is set to United Kingdom, and I have English (United Kingdom) installed.

Microsoft Money users might be interested in this.

There was an update last night. I checked this morning to see if Microsoft Money works - and it does! Looks like Microsoft may have been listening to their customers.

Was planning to revert to 8.1 this morning, which would have been a great shame, because I much prefer 10. No need now - I hope this lasts.

  • Well I took the plunge and installed Windows 10 all went well :j

Can not see much difference between it and Windows 8.1 except the charms have gone ...quite liked them tho . I am going to give it a few weeks to see how I get on with it? but at the mo think I preferred 8.1. You can go back up to a month later after installing 10 so that's good news .

FYI Microsoft will be supporting 10 for almost 3 years longer than 8. That may be one good reason to upgrade within the next 11 months.

Not sure if it was this one, or one of the multitude other Win 10 threads, that it was mentioned previously by someone else, but ... I was nearly a victim of the sneak Windows 10 update last night.

As I went to turn off my PC I noticed Windows Updates were pending install. I usually let them install but I remembered this topic being mentioned on MSE Forums so I went to check what was to be installed. Yep ... Windows 10.

Sneaky, sneaky Microsoft! Let people decide for themselves when (if) they want to upgrade ... don't try to slight of hand to make people upgrade before they've made backups and recovery images!

(You have to go into the detailed view of updates to be able to untick Windows 10 - there isn't a quick untick option at the main Windows Update page).
  • Yeah the same thing happened to me ...was getting fed up of it nagging me to install 10 so decided I would tell it when to install ... Beware folks only gives you a few days grace to choose from in options you can not pick your own date for weeks or months ahead like I thought you would be able to? So thought what the heck just go for it ... Thankfully installed without any glitches :jnot sure if I like it tho ? not a lot different to 8.1 but at least you can go back within a month of trying it ..so for now I will see how I get on.

If you just rebooted you wouldn't have kicked off the upgrade, I've tested it. You are made fully aware of what is happening.
