I am trying to remove Windows Defender from my Win 10 laptop - preferring alternative antivirus - but it appears that MS have switched this on by default - unable to disable
    Any advice ?

I have found a glitch with Ccleaner with Win 10
It leaves behind two files - detected in Reg Cleaner - ActiveX/COM - both proxystub.dll's
    Anyone else found this ?

Just switch it off.....Look in the control panel or just type 'Windows Defender' in the start menu to get the settings.

OK It turned out that Defender wouldn't turn off - because AVG was not running properly (it needed a compatibility update itself - and Defender was trying to ensure that I was protected) - so AVG now compatible and Defender switched off !!

ok as posted on a previous page , I have had the "not genuine" situation today , and solved it.

the update , is for the machine its updating , if you copy the files or download the "tool" , when it expands , it collects the serial number of the machine its working on

Microsoft are doing this to stop you selling multiple copies on pendrives etc.

to get past the "not genuine" you have to run a small 3 line entry in command prompt , , I have explained this about 3 times

I am sorry, but you please share the link again. I cannot seem to find it from previous pages.
    Sorry to bother. :o

freddy's posts are quite easy to find.

he likes to pad his [STRIKE]waffle[/STRIKE]useful info with blank lines

although he'll probably blame the forum design for that;)

Oh one thing to watch out for folks is turning off Wifi Sense unless you want all your mates and his dog war driving your precious bandwidth or worse, getting you a visit from operation Yew Tree.

Another idiotic design decision brought to you by that non-security vendor called Microsoft.

I didn't realise this was currently in windows phone 8.1 as well, I'm not stupid enough to buy a windows phone nor any of my relatives or friends so had never come across it before.

I'm not planning on getting a windows phone either!!

I've not noticed this on my machine yet. But I only have it on to play games so it's not on 24/7
Next time I turn it on I'll take a look at those settings. :)
