I might be wrong, but this seems to be the most widely tested pre released OS weve ever seen...
Maybe, but that doesn't mean it works yet...

The latest release is working fast and smooth. No reason why the final version won't be good to go.
For those on the insider programme, it's not even a 'novelty' as some suggest, but, an OS they have been using for quite a while.
As the insider programme is going to continue I would think anything that is found to be amiss will be swiftly corrected.

for the main parts of the OS, yes I agree they'll probably be sorted quickly, I'm more concerned with drivers especially for some of the older systems.... wouldn't be the first time hw companies have used a new OS to force consumers into buying new hw.

I'm still sticking to my original plan to run it on a spare older HP business lappy for a while and see how it goes - I still think the majority of my machines will remain on W7 though :)

    Speculate to accumulate.
M$ will have plenty in mind in offering a free update.
Whether its revenue through apps, the music service or in annual paid updates.
    nobody knows as of yet.

Microsoft make very little on the OS but it cost a lot in support. Moving everyone to the same OS will save a lot in only having to support supporting one code base.

There is a 'hidden' agenda but its removing back end costs.

All people have to do is register for win10, download it but install it when YOU`RE ready.
Change your settings to do this NOW.

MS have stated this will be the last brand new OS, whether they`ll charge for updates is anyone`s guess but I can`t see that going down too well.
There`s money to be made from add-ons.

As above and for those that don't want free pay for it .

The key for many is hardware and it will be best to make sure drivers are available for older hardware before moving over .

Because businessmen are in it to make money and they give nothing away free if it can turn in a quick buck (think "fox and chicken".)

I think Custardy has it about right when he says that M$ will have plenty in mind in offering the free update.

Look at the BT "Free sports channels". They were never free. They were always contract-dependent. Now BT are playing tricks with their customers making them pay £5 a month or reduce to BT lite (on a new 12 months contract) BT customers have learned the hard way what "free" really means.

People have every right to be sceptical of so called "free" offers. This is what MSE is about.

BT are only charging £5 for champions league as far as im aware the premiership matches are free still.. but i read that BT was force to charge as competiers said was unfair giving away free to their own customers but charging non customers... (not sure why it unfair i still have to pay for sky sports)

Why register at all? Just get the latest version (within the next 12 months) when you want to.

Microsoft have said that they will not charge for updates.
"once a qualified Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it up to date for the supported lifetime of the device, keeping it more secure, and introducing new features and functionality over time – for no additional charge.”
But, it is fun seeing all the old cynics making more excuses to live with XP or W7. :D
