Sub folders and sub sub sub sub folders
So all stored by categorisation.
That why I know where a document will be found.
I usually will have no idea what is its name (not surprisingly given the number of files stored) - until I see it in the sub-directory listing.
It does require a certain degree of effort put in when saving a document in the first place to correctly file it in the correct sub-directory - which I suppose many cannot be bothered with.
So I never actually need to "search" for a document.0 -

And for that you need a startmenu? Create a shortcut to your "My Documents" on the desktop.
Edit:~$ find Documents/ -type f |wc -l

I'm guessing you never had to be submerged with Vista whilst trying to wade through the processes of a new computer, trying to work and having previously gotten on very well with XP.
I had XP at home, when they replaced my work PC with one running Vista.
I now use Classic Shell on my 8.1 home computers (desktop and laptop), so they act much like my work PC.
Can't say I'm unhappy with them.0 -

Me neither.
My Desktop came with 8.1, but I immediately installed Classic Shell.0 -
Maybe for you but Windows Phone and W8 are fantastic to use on "simple" interface devices such as phones, the xbox and touch screen devices and for people who are not so tech savvy. That said on a PC with a mouse its a harder learning curve.I also don't understand the obsession with the start menu. I use Ubuntu, in the past with Unity, now with Gnome3. Most the time I just hit the Windows key and type the first 2 or 3 letters of the program or document i want to open and hit Enter. So much quicker...
I sometimes have to write my own Launcher menus, but otherwise its just great, and way better than Windows 8.Bedsit_Bob wrote: »Me neither.

8.1 does have a feature where you can use the same wallpaper for the home page as the desktop, so the flip between screens isn't quite so jarring. That alone makes it slightly less awful than plain 8.0 -
I have just done a fresh install of Win7 on a new SSD and left the old hard drive alone so I can boot from it any time I like.
When I did the fresh install I was surprised I did not have to enter the Win7 product key so I assume MS have other ways of knowing if your copy is legal.
If I upgrade to Win10 will MS allow me to use Win7 from the old hard drive if I don't like the upgrade?0 -
yup realizing on 29th July excited to test how it works.0

Depends when you bought the laptop but many are stored in the BIOS now and they auto activate.0
