Service packs are a thing of the past in W10 so the rumour is a bit out there.

Isn't it going to be Windows 10 as in OS X. OS X is still OS X after fifteen years of development, and they give a new name to the point releases?
10.1 with some fancy name. So windows 10 Helium or or Windows 10 Alaska, and so on.

    Did you read the comment?

I find it very racist that apparently that black guy is getting a one dollar upgrade, while it's clearly the white womans computer and she is abusing the black-discount.

    Hope you can read this!

STILL haven't got the update icon / notification.

Did a bit of digging in this laptop and found this:
    [IMG][/img]GetWin10.png

... does that mean that it will show up eventually?

    Thanks

The confirmation of the reservation email has a note

" Because you’ve reserved, Windows will automatically take care of the download in advance. Then you’ll get a notification when your upgrade is ready to install. That way you can start using Windows 10 immediately – or schedule a time to install that’s convenient for you. If you have any more questions, check out the upgrade FAQ. "

Doe's anyone know when the downloads in advance will start. I assume these will be before 29 July 2015?
    Regards
    erb :)

there will be no updates or d/loads until the release on 29th july 2015,

ps I have been running the insiders review , as a stand alone and as an update ,

I would suggest you check that you are using a genuine REGISTERED copy of 7/8 , coz if you are on pirated or non reg , funny things WILL happen.

and your comeback to Microsoft when the upgrade fails will be one word "tough".

That is not the way I read the press releases, I would put money on the upgrades being downloaded to users hard drives before the "release" date meaning everyone can access it on that date, saves a hell of a server load.

Update KB2976978 on W8.1 machines has this description......
This update performs diagnostics on the Windows systems that participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program in order to determine whether compatibility issues may be encountered when the latest Windows operating system is installed. This update will help Microsoft and its partners ensure compatibility for customers who are seeking to install the latest Windows operating system.
I think there is one for W7 machines KB295266.
These are said to be preparing machines for the final download AFAIK.
Word is that they may begin a gradual (partial and sealed) download in the background days before the 29th to PC's registered for the update.
No word yet that this background process will need approval or not on those machines..
They seem determined not to make the same mistakes apple made and have their servers crash due to demand.
Anyway, only time will tell, not long now. I have a laptop on the insiders programme and my main PC on W8.1 with a reservation. It'll be interesting to see what happens between the two.
