Maybe for you but Windows Phone and W8 are fantastic to use on "simple" interface devices such as phones, the xbox and touch screen devices and for people who are not so tech savvy. That said on a PC with a mouse its a harder learning curve.0 -
It's not a question of learning curve at all. It's the fact that the apps were initially full screen and the number of actions to find and launch a program were more than on Win 7.
Anyway it seems that there were plenty agreed with me or there would have been no need for start menu apps and ModernMix. It seems MS did too as they re-introduced some sort of menu with 8.1 (I've never actually seen it as I kept on using Classic start menu) and say that 10 will have an enhanced version of it (hopefully advanced enough to remove the need for third party add-ons)0 -
W8.1 is actually very good and there is no real need for the old type start menu. I had a TP start menu at the beginning, because everyone was banging on about it, but, rapidly found that using 8.1 as it was meant to be used, was actually quicker.
I know it's not for everyone, but I usually recommend that people at least try to learn the basics before giving in and using a TP solution. Some have stuck with it others have given in or just plain not liked it.
I've not seen a Windows OS that people haven't moaned about constantly, it seems that some think it's de rigueur.;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I did try 8.0 native. For at least 20 minutes
Must admit I haven't even looked at 8.1 native0 -

I'm not sure the start menu will satisfy everybody, but, once you learn your way around it's fine. As a matter of interest, the TP start menu I had on my laptop (StartMenu X) still works in W10 so people shouldn't have any difficulty with it if they still don't like it.
I'm going to buck the trend and say, I'm not sure yet which I prefer 8.1 or 10...;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I also don't understand the obsession with the start menu. I use Ubuntu, in the past with Unity, now with Gnome3. Most the time I just hit the Windows key and type the first 2 or 3 letters of the program or document i want to open and hit Enter. So much quicker...0 -
I'd guess then that your "documents" folder probably does not contain just over 14000 files as mine and I'm sure many others does.0
