Windows 10 can do it all.

Sure it can. And for the vast majority of home users, it would be a more sensible choice than GNU/Linux. Probably the only choice if you're a gamer.

As regards learning how to use the platforms and UI, I'd say Windows 10 is easier than Linux but both involve a learning curve. I think most people trying Linux wouldn't have a, "Wow! that's better" feeling after only an hour or two. Nonetheless, when got to grips with, it can perform the tasks that most home users need. I find I can sing the praises of both Linux and Windows 10. They both work.

    I don't know. If you're interested in computers, technically-minded and/or a control-freak, then there's a good chance you'll love the modular simplicity of Linux.

There's so much choice, and so many different shells, window managers and desktop environments you can install. So it's hard to say whether Linux has a better UI or not as it depends which one(s) you're using.

Personally, I love the minimalist simplicity of XFCE. It's just so elegantly simple, lightweight and intuitive to use. I reckon your average nonogenarian technophobe would find it easier to use than any Windows UI (although XP's Classic Mode comes close). And bash is soooo much better than Window's command prompt.

But anyway... while Linux might not be for everyone, Windows pretty-much is. Linux may be niche for home users, but it provides so much choice. Yet Windows has a near-monopoly and provides almost no choice at all.

I'm genuinely astounded that Microsoft didn't provide a simple usable alternative to the fancy-looking default Start Menu. If ClassicShell was built in I wouldn't be complaining! (Well... I'd probably be complaining about the various privacy issues and advertising in W10, but I'll leave it there!)

Well they did give you a choice of start menu, sort of. They could have easily blocked TP start menus but they don't and there are several good ones to choose from.
It takes little time to install one and once it's there, that's it. So no complaints should really be forthcoming regarding the start menu.
Not sure about the advertising, I never see any.....;)

!!!!!!!! Does noone use desktop shortcuts?

Regularly used stuff get their own, seldom used stuff get a categorised folder and are no more that 2 clicks and, possibly, a short scroll, away.

I've used CL Unix (Linux) for 30 odd years and IMHO it's a dog.

GUI Linux is a just polished turd.

It's not difficult; it's tedious, long-winded and idiotic to only be able to easily access programs that you have "pinned" somewhere, or from a long alphabetic list of every program.

Where do YOU access your programs from? The desktop? The Start Menu? The toolbar? You have to go SOMEWHERE for them. I demonstrated in my last post that it's not tedious to pin a FEW most used programs. In Windows 7, you've just got a big list in the Start menu. Windows 10 has that too, and ADDS the Tiles. What have you lost? What, specifically, is difficult? Count the number of clicks you have to make in each OS.
Honestly. If some of you people took 30 minutes to learn how to use Linux

Have spent more than 30 minutes with Linux, thanks. No it's not as pretty, and it's certainly not easier to use. Why are you preaching about 30 mins with Linux whilst defending not taking 5 minutes to find your way round Windows 10, and just installing stuff to make it look like 7?!

Did they ever reinstate the November Win 10 Update download which was pulled soon after it was made available?
    Thanks.
    Move along, nothing to see.

    Thanks.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3124200) has appeared this afternoon - don't know whether that is the one that you mention ?
Incidentally - my laptop has started not auto restarting after Win 10 updates - which is extremely annoying - it means that I have to sit and wait for updates to install and manually restart the device !

In Windows (prior to W10), I accessed lesser-used programs from the Start Menu. As I understand, there's no way to get a hierarchical list of programs in the Windows 10 menu.

Try counting the number of programs YOU have installed, and how many YOU immediately remember the name of. Chances are YOU don't have many programs so Windows 10 isn't quite as tedious for YOU as it is for others.

That's quite an ignorant position to take. Have you seen every publicly-released user interface that has ever been made for GNU/Linux distributions? Thought not.

Have you ever managed to set up Linux so that it works for YOU? Thought not.

Why are you preaching about Windows when you have nothing decent to compare it to?! What makes you think that I want the UI to look like Windows 7?! What makes you think I've got 5 minutes to waste on Windows when I can do the same thing in Linux in less time?!

Instead of worshipping at the alter of Microsoft, why can't you accept that their crippled attempt at a UI is not something that would appeal to everyone?!

Instead of asking me to install an operating system that I find tedious to use, why don't you go away and replace your Windows installation with OS/2 or MS-DOS?

Some of us never asked for, do not want, like, TRUST, or care for Win10. I never bought Win7, for the sole purpose of USING Win10. I did not buy it to get used to Linux, nor to spend half an hour familiarising myself with 10.

Many people are pretty annoyed that we now find ourselves being asked WHY NOT, particularly if we have been told that were having 10 whether or not we like the idea.

I spent a fortune buying an iMac as a result, now spending much more than 5 minutes, familiarising myself with the OS. Not because I wanted to, but because MS INSIST I use 10, give it a Year and they can INSIST I use 11, then 12, then 13, they can do these as often as they wish, its in their T&Cs. Having now read these T&Cs, the bottom line is if I dont like it, go elsewhere, which I did.

Some people have opted for Linux, as is their choice, you have opted to go with 10, your choice completely. Nobody is defending the other, they are offering alternatives already out there that ISN'T Windows 10.

I'm on about the complete Win 10 image.
The original was updated in November when the major update took place and known as 'Win10 1115', 'Fall' or 'Threshold 2'.
    It was pulled soon after.
    Move along, nothing to see.
