I would prob feign pet allergy. Im allergic to pet hair, daily antihistamines keep it under control with my own pets, but if i go near anyone elses i react. So its a plausible excuse you can use to not go rnd theirs0

I was once invited to a colleagues house along with a few other co-workers for a 40th birthday , the lady was a long term colleague she had two alsatians which were in the garden while we were there but obviously had the run of the house usually. The house was indescribably dirty, every surface and even the walls were filthy where the dogs had rubbed up against them, the doors had holes chewed in them and the kitchen was absolutely disgusting.
One of the girls went to use the loo and when she came back I thought she was going to throw up. I went to use it later but I can't even describe it, how anyone can live with such disgusting habits and never clean the toilet is beyond me I had to hold it as there was no way I was even going to 'hover' over what was beyond description..
It was very embarrassing but we had to make our excuses and leave.. the lady in question never mentioned the evening again... how she could not know her house was so disgusting I really don't know..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Just think of the benefits - you are boosting your immune system. I do feel a bit sorry for the other couple though. They were clearly looking forward to having you round.
They probably don't notice as they've lived there so long. It is unlikely to kill you anyway. If you like the chat, just crack on! Certainly no need to be rude to them.
Edit also a bit tough for the OP to feign allergies if they have pets themselves. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

That's you. I think it is a bit of a stretch considering the other couple have presumably met the OP's pets. If you are taking daily antihistamines then they are not sold just to protect you from Goldie the Labrador but not Colin the Chihuahua they are a general blocker so I'm afraid I wouldn't feel like I was getting the truth.
Being caught in a lie is just as bad as being rude I think. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Litter tray on the kitchen counter? I can't begin to understand why anyone would have a receptacle containing animal waste anywhere in their home..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

If they were looking forward to having guests they should have made the effort to clean up a bit.0 -
I'm still wondering why we were asked to take our shoes off tbh!?0

Similar situation here,
we were invited to a barbecue on the caravan site we store out caravan on. Hubby had helped put their awning up so they invited us to their barbecue.
We sat around the barbecue... The man of the house was cooking the food, the wife was buttering the bread. Hubby had a phone call from work which was pretty important so he excused himself and wandered back to our caravan.
"She's never going to serve us that!" I inwardly thought. The meat had got blood oozing out of it and I not only thought of us but I thought of the poor kids (they had 6) lining up to be fed.
Hubby was quite a while so I wandered over with a plate of raw food in between bread rolls.
As I handed him the plate I uttered "For goodness sake, eat the bread round the meat just to show willing, the meat is raw!"
I went back to our hosts and a few minutes later hubby appeared with an empty plate. I forced down one roll with raw meat on it and prayed for deliverance if anything was to go wrong but there was no way I could get out of eating something.
I needn't of worried about their kids, they fed them biscuits and not a lot else. The poor little lad with cerebal palsy was stuck in between a couple of pillows in the caravan on his own with a wafer to nibble on.
Never have I felt so inadequate in my life! I see them occasionally on Facebook. She'd got issues and kept forcing them onto everyone else. I ditched her as a friend as soon as I could.
What meat was it?
I do kind of read that as they like their meat rare and you like it well done. When you say 'raw' are you exaggerating?0 -

I agree with this. They seem a bit out of touch with reality and to lack awareness of basic standards of hospitality.
It may not be in their long-term interests of to avoid the subject on the grounds of sparing their feelings: this comes close to enabling.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
