We'll be discussing shoes on or off before long.
Now, that's a can of worms.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Our household is a whatever you like as long as your shoes are not caked in mud. If you have been invited then make yourself at home kind of attitude!
Also in cases people have removed shoes and their feet have been quite smelly so I would rather avoid that by having shoes left on and a quick vacuum after they have gone0 -

You started something now haven't you?!Our household is a whatever you like as long as your shoes are not caked in mud. If you have been invited then make yourself at home kind of attitude!

That's exactly my view too. Unless shoes are caked in mud then they can keep them on. No rules here about having to remove them, and as above, I'd rather run round with a Hoover than have sweaty feet on my carpet.0 -
Regarding the OP's friends. I don't think I could go round again if it was me. I boak really easy if something or someone is unclean and smells. There's no way I could eat there.
I also don't understand why the litter tray has to be on the work surface? Cats stretch about trying to cover their mess after going and litter can fly everywhere....that is so unhygienic!0 -
We've got two friends, who are lovely people, great fun, but rank with hygiene.....
The whole house stinks, the toilet is always beyond description, and the kitchen is frightening lol
But, we do love to see them, so we generally try to go there, in summer, sit in the garden (curiously well kept!), and take bottled cold drinks to share with them ( quite acceptable in summer). They live by the sea, so summer visits are better anyway.
That way we don't need to sit in the house or use cups etc.,
If we need to eat, we suggest going to the local pub for food, and then we can use the loo at the same time.
Winter times, we invite them here lol
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -

Sounds exactly a house i encounter!
Picture: 2 massive dogs, and thirty-forty other creatures including parrots, lizards, rabbits and guinea pigs, all in the house
They are a bit of a clutter fiend too so every conceivable surface is covered in stuff and dust and dog hair and parrot droppings . I'm totally baffled about where they prepare food as every kitchen surface is covered in, well, stuff! Thing is, they are actually a really good cook. I just tell my immune system to buckle up for its monthly workout whenever we eat there. :rotfl: though I'm putting my foot down when I'm pregnant and will eat before I go or have uncontrollable nausea which means I can't possibly eat there.
They was actually appalled that we make an effort to tidy and clean every surface here before we have guests, including them. They said, well we don't bother....inwardly I went, you don't say!?!?! :rotfl:Baby due 21/06/20170 -
I visit someone in the families house about once a month and while the house is generally tidy, the hygiene thing is a problem.
For example, the dog had pooped on the lawn and the kids wanted to play outside. So she went outside, picked it up with a hand trowel and then came back in to continue chopping tomatoes without washing her hands.
She wipes the floor with the washing cloth and then uses the same cloth to wipe the worktops. (They have animals too)
However, I am quite 'lucky' as my LO was in special care (not lucky for that) but we had to be very, very careful about hygiene etc for at least a year. (Doctors advice)
So she thinks I have a 'thing' about cleanliness- so I can say to her, 'please wash your hands,' and she just thinks I have a form of OCD about cleanliness!
On a least two occasions we have come home and all had the poops because raw and cooked meat are cross contaminated- so now we visit after lunch and leave before tea. She also gave my children yoghurts that were two months out of date. Raw chicken is handled and hands not washed. Plates often have bits of old food stuck to them.
My LO also has certain foods she can't eat, so I just 'add' certain things to the list as I know she kind of thinks I am over the top regarding hygiene.
The worst thing is that she is lovely, we love spending time there but the cleanliness issue is tricky. We wouldn't stop going but it does mean I have to be vigilant all the time.0 -
