Mmm ham in coke sounds lovely! I'm sadly excited about slow cooking everything!
That is really lovely of your friend to pay for your carer WaS! He's such a wonderful person.
Elsien, I think long is the norm at black tie events but who knows nowadays?! I'm sorry to say that I don't think the dresses JM linked to are smart enoughBut I am one of the rare ones who really enjoys an excuse to get dressed up and would rather be over-dressed than under-dressed! There are lots of other lovely dresses on the TK Maxx site though. If you want something even cheaper I have bought a dress from 'Ever Pretty' on Amazon. It wasn't the *best* quality dress ever but was pretty darn good for £17 and it was only worn once (it was a James Bond party and I went as Vesper Lynd from Casino Royale) so worth it!
Good idea to check charity shops (and ebay - search for Coast and Monsoon) too.
Awww, sorry to see you still here Katy, in the best possible way!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -

Yes, you'd definitely need something round your shoulders like a shrug or pashmina or something. Personally I prefer shorter length (the 50's kind of style) and am not a mega fan of maxi dresses, I don't feel comfortable in them? I nearly put my foot in it at the wedding. I was talking to my SIL, we were sitting down, so I hadn't really fully clocked what she was wearing. She said something like "I love your dress, but it would never suit me with my big stomach" and I'm like actually, it kind of skims over that area (got a bit of a belly myself!) and then flares out. I can't stand maxi dresses"....looks down and yes she's wearing a maxi dress, so quickly added "on me, they just don't suit me"
Agree with Birdie that Coast and Monsoon have some gorgeous dresses, I searched those makes whilst looking for a dress for the wedding, you can get some brilliant bargains on eBay.
Katy, I've now got visions of escapee coming out with sunglasses on saying "knock it off with the torch Daddy!" in my head it's a new york accent, don't know why?!0 -
Hmm, I agree with Birdie a bit I think. Evening dress is very different from the sort of thing you'd wear to a wedding. Every black tie event I've been to, the majority of people were in long dresses. Although it's been a while. Well before DH I was engaged to a guy from an estate owning, old money, titled family so I was dragged out like a show pony at these events, although some of it I'm pretty sure was to laugh at the chav from the council estate. Think Julia Roberts cocktail dress in Pretty Woman, if you go short but less 80s.
I've had to make a fake side fringe to hide the massive mountain on my head. It's not the best look for me, I'm not going to lie. I look like Hitler!Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
I've never been to a black tie event before, but I think I'd too be inclined (even though I'm not keen on them) to go for a long dress. Something like the one I posted on the previous page, so it goes to the ankles but doesn't completely swamp the feet.

Hi all, I know I'm not here much these days, but I do have a bit of a lurk & think of you always x
Harry's still not yet got the right medz, so the voices are not always kind to him. He's seeing the Psychiatrist regularly but he wont have any other help unfortunately. I've had another op & am doing rather well. Thanks so much for asking.
What's that poll then Pyxis?0 -
I think WaS is allocated only so many, so any extra, she has to fund herself. (I could be wrong though!)
They allowed Mr Duke 6 when he hurt his back. I've had a few single sessions myself & both times they've told me to go straight back if I need them again. But I think it depends what you have & the area that you're in.
Oh my trauma counselling begins tomoz, I'd forgotten about it.0 -

If you look at #4887 above, we're all 'betting' on when Katy's baby arrives! You just pick a day of the week!

Second day this week of barely managing to get out of bed. Got a load of laundry beside me to slowly fold - else I'll feel guilty for being useless and getting nothing done.
Bf is over this evening, and another, ah,'connection' tomorrow. Not actually good timing for me, but he's off work for his bday week so I'll just need to recover afterwards!:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0
