moo, just a thought, don't suppose there are any friends or family going away soon for a week or weekend who might appreciate house sitters? Just to get a break from the terrorising for a couple of days, but still be able to live your lives?
My mate at the place I have been contracting (and one of the reasons I dont want to leave) has offered hers if we really need to get away.
That would be 4 adults, 3 dogs, 1 cat and a 3 year old lol so is very much last resort.
Going to try and spend some quality time with my boy, his OCD has kicked in and hes worried about leaving dogs and stuff.0 -
Do you think there are a lot of genetic links then WaS? I know there is a lot of interaction between genetics and upbringing. You can be genetically predisposed to something, but if your upbringing doesn't trigger it then you may not develop the issue. I don't know if that is the same for physical illness though, and if not why not.
Lovely ring Melly!
How are you getting on Flybaby?
Have you seen the doctor yet about your multicoloured leg decorations yet Pyxis?
Maybe your hair will brighten after a couple of washes Georgie? I found the John Freida ones quite subtle really. The live ones worked best on me but also faded quite quickly.
I need a pirate penguin. Or rather escapee does! We haven't got many cuddles yet for them with not knowing what flavour they will be for definite. We have a cuddly moomin, an iron man and a cthulu' so far.
Had an awful dream last night and still feel really yucky from it today, wish my dreams weren't so realistic.0 -
I want a cthulu!0

In my case, Katy the genetic links were very strong because there were a lot of physical and mental illnesses that had a high hereditary component. However, I still might not have developed these conditions if it wasn't for my combined negative environmental and social upbringing. Look at this way, we can have a family history of heart disease but if we take preventative measures it might never occur in us even though we have a genetic predisposition. I may never have developed Schizophrenia, for example if my childhood hadn't affected me so badly. I had several factors all come into play to make it more likely. I think that although we can be prone to developing certain things they won't necessarily happen if the influence is solely genetic, but if you put several negative factors together you create the perfect storm.

WaS completely agree, one of the other reasons I took stuff in my youth was because of my family history figured if I was going to develop a fear of electricity(Nan) and believe I was being monitored through my fridge by the CIA (Uncle) I may as well as do it quickly.0

Exactly, Melly. If one already has the genetics leaning in that direction then the social environment can give it the final push. I do think I was always going to develop some kind of mental health condition, not only was it prevalent on both sides of my family my mother wasn't capable of caring for herself, nevermind a child and my dad was completely exhausted emotionally with trying to care for both of us and work full time. That caused a spiralling affect where I grew up unable to function socially which led to me being bullied throughout school which added another environmental factor. Then throw in my dad's suicide and something was always going to give somewhere. It would have for any child.
I relate to you there btw, my mother always thought that the Government was observing her through the radio and also monitored her calls through telephones. She refused to have a phone for her whole life as a result. That drove me particularly mad as a child because she was so physically unwell due to not taking her medication regularly or through overdosing. I never knew if I would find her collapsed when I got home whereas if she had a phone she could have called for help before things reached that stage and I could have checked on her while I was at school.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
