Tell me about it Lilt I really don't know where the year has gone. It doesn't seem like a week since I've been in my new house and it is now actually six months!Feb NST #4

Turtles, my biggest job this month has to be trying to find the joy in things, because I feel as bleak as that seaside town right now. I will get to do a bit of wild camping later this month, and I hope that helps perk me up. also, making more time for my own writing, I missed it this morning.
wishus It's not part of the challenge but I don't know if you might like to adopt Applemuncher et al's method of giving a few small things they were thankful for each day. It can be the simplest of things, a smiley child, a funny sign, somebody doing something for you out of the blue. It may help you to think about the happy things that I think we all miss in the normal day to day drudge.Feb NST #4

Hey all
Thank you shyspender - WANTED poster indeed haha! It's lovely to be back.
I'd forgotten how inspiring it could be reading through others' posts. There's definitely a shared sense of emotions - frustration, hope, sometimes elation or despair... but always a belief somewhere that we can and will achieve our goals... And we will. All of us.
SFD number 1 today!
Like a lot of people I'm trawling through the freezer and cupboards knocking up some weird and wonderful (sometimes not so wonderful mind lol) recipes. Made a vat of pastastuff at weekend which should last me until... oh... say Christmas!!!
Have a great evening. A storm is coming in here, so am battening down the hatches and staying in where it's warm.

Well I am in crabby mood today. Don't seem to have any money this month so budgets will just be bare minimum, the freezer( needs defrosting as well) will be empty come 1st July and my car tax will be paid without using my credit card.
Today will be a SFD will put off petrol buying until tomorrow - I am confused - do you not lose a SFD for this anymore?
Off to update signature, tidy bombsite of desk and get budgets set in stone. DETERMINED.
Calling Look at what I have quoted. You have already, on day one, decided that the freezer will be emptied by using up and defrosted and that your car tax will be paid without you using your credit card. That's a fantastic start to your jousting. Well done you!
As for the fuel. Kat used to say that normal fuel was a SFD if it was budgeted for. There are no set rules. It is up to the individual. I put in about emergency fuel because you just never now when you have to do that emergency trip. It's up to you, xFeb NST #4

Wow!
It's hard work keeping up with this and it is only day one!
So, as a reminder/intro to all
I am debt free. Have been for over a year now I think. I don't particularly have any savings goals at the moment. I am a YNAB user and so am slowly adding money leftover at the end of each month into a buffer, building up a month/6 months wages.
I was fortunate when I bought my house in November that my folks helped me out a little and I currently have a nice savings pot that is only earmarked for some garden landscaping at the moment. Once that is done, it will be saved, and added to, for the next rainy day fund.
I moved further from work so my fuel bill went up however I am in a much nicer area and make savings on having a larger range of supermarkets available to me. I also got solar panels with the house and I can already see a saving with them. I have also just completed the registration for the FIT payments. So, basically, the energy supplier pay me for surplus energy from my panels that I can give back to them.
Short term goal, kind of saving from dribs and drabs of money from selling things and refunds and stuff, is to take the OH on the sleeper train to Edinburgh for a weekend.
What about you fellow Turtles? Anybody care to share?Feb NST #4

Dottydaisy Do you have to meet for lunch out? Could you meet at home? at a friends? orgainse a BYO lunch? The same with the coffee? Is there something else you could do that would be less spendy but still give you the chance to meet up with your friends?
I am only paying minimum amounts on my 0% credit cards and paying down my current account and home management account(for the bills) as I can see some progress that way.
What does this mean? do you have an overdraft on your current account? Is there anyway you could swap things to another account and then pay a set amount to the overdraft? Home management account? is this for monthly bills or do you save up for quarterly etc?
My main area for cutting back will be food and household. I have gathered all cleaning products together and I must have 6 months worth, so I have made a carry box for the stuff I use and can take it anywhere in the house. I am using up all fridge, freezer and cupboard stores to try and cut costs in June, should be able to make a lot of meals out of them, Want to not have any takeaways in June as while not well recently have had quite a few.
I also aim to budget £100 for petrol.
I need to be accountable for my spending so will try to post most days.
hugs to everyone
Dotty daisy
have you thought of making a list of what you have Dottydaisy? so that you can meal plan? Can you make any fakeaways with what you have so that you aren't missing out so much?Feb NST #4

Hi All
Checking in with SFD 1/20.
Calling -sorry you are having a crappy day. Really hope tommorow is better.
Mothernerd - your situation sounds complex. I really hope you can get through until your other house sells. If you go on Stepchange what does that mean exactly? Is that a money management plan? Glad the internet thing is gettting sorted. Hot baths are the best!

Good Evening,
It may be June but I have had the heating on today in a very wet and windy South Wales.Been off work for the last 4 days and I think the excitement for having more than 1 day off made me ill,Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow, next day of is Sunday and I have 2 overtime shift to do as well. So a busy week for me.
Today was a spend day as we needed milk, bread and I had a parcel to post, not a good start. On the positive side I have sorted through our small freezer and found loads of tubs with no labels, so we will be having some interesting meals. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Pulled one out ready for tomorrow night, will know in the morning what it is. Note to self - Label tubs.
I am also extending clear down to toiletries etc, bathroom cupboard is groaning under the weight of half used bottles of this and that, lots of upside down bottles in my cupboard now.
The thought of having empty cupboards and freezer is very frightening, goes back to childhood I think, always had full cupboards, actually our kitchen was not that big and we didn't have many cupboards,so maybe that's why they always looked full.I will overcome my fear of empty cupboards.
Off for a very early night as I feel so washed out, will do battle with budget and debt tomorrow. Big hugs to all that need them.
