I began my attempt to reclaim PPI from my HFC Beneficial Credit Card in September 2007. I used the template letters from this site but my claim was rejected as HFC told me there was no evidence that it had been mis-sold and that they did not have the original paperwork. I had taken the card out in 1992 and did not have the paperwork either but was convinced for many reasons that I had not been given enough info on which to make an informed decision. I then took my claim through the FOS and they were very helpful but unable to do anything without the original paperwork. I wasn't ready to give up so thought I would have one last try and took my claim through the courts. Imagine my suprise when HFC "found" the original paperwork when requested by the courts!! The appointed judge advised me to ask the FOS to reopen my case with this new evidence. At that time HFC were very unhelpful and I had some heated e-mails exchanged with their solicitor but they declined to settle the claim at that point. I then had a further 18 months with the FOS who were again extreemly helpful but inundated with work. Last week I got a cheque for a whopping £9415 which was way more than I expected. I would have settled for a fraction of this had HFC settled sooner and been more respectful. Anyway I'm obviously delighted and really pleased that I ploughed on. It's taken the best part of 3 years but well worth it. Thanks to MSE for advice and support. Best wishes to all. Don't give up!!

    Di3004 I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU

Got my offer letter through yesterday

Had 4 loans in total, paid each one off with a top up loan etc and had 14 months left on my existing loan amount

The offer letter was to pay the outstanding balance off on my existing loan and also credit me back £3,490

    I can't thank you enough

They broke down all the values etc with 8% interest included on a seperate sheet and I sent my response back this morning.

    1st letter sent 30th April

One reply to say they are looking into it, one phone call to clarify if i am requesting PPI refund on all 4 loans and then offer later

    I am over the moon

How long do you think they will now take till I get the loan paid off and my refund bare in mind that my next loan payment is scheduled for the 1st July

    Thank you so much Di3004

Awe bless you, your very welcome.:A

That is absolutely fab news, Congratulations!

I would give them say 28 days (a month then) and chase them up if you hear nothing, please keep me posted, and we shall take it from there.;)

Hi Donna, I understand that when settling finance early then penalty charges may come into to it, but this may vary from one bank to another, so what I would do is ask them for a settlement quote and ask how long they stand, as it may differ day to day or month to month.

If you do not have the policy booklet details on this, they should send them to you on request.

    Good luck with this.

    Hi
    Sorry to hear this.:(

Was this rejected by an adjudicator or the actual ombudsman himself?

They do however say you can ask for a review by someone else if this have not been done so yet.

  • After realising that we were paying way over the odds on our credit card (Cahoot), I discovered that we were paying over £34 a month PPI and had been doing so since 2003!!! I then read on this site about mis-sold PPIs and knew that we had definitely been mis-sold this policy as a] my husband is self-employed and b] we couldn't even remember ticking any box regarding PPI!! I copied part of Martin Lewis's letter and sent it to Cahoot who dismissed it out of hand but they did direct me to Santandar who had taken over the company. I then emailed the letter to Santandar and they replied immediately saying they would investigate and within a couple of weeks they sent a letter agreeing to my complaint and offered us almost £3,000. If you are being fobbed off don't get disheartened. Keep going. How many people don't realise that they are being ripped off? They must be making a fortune out of this racket. Don't let them get away with it.
    Thanks Martin
    Regards
    Heather
