  • Hi everyone,

I was looking through some old mail today and found a letter regarding my claim for my unfair credit card charges.

The letter is dated the 26th November 2008-

My claim was against Halifax and myclaimsexpert was dealing with the claim. The letter i found has stated that the Halifax was willing to pay £471.00 plus £411.36 interest as a goodwill gesture. So i phoned customer relations number on the letter and asked if them to send me an acceptance form as i couldn't find it.

Will i still get paid out??

    Thanks Barry

    Hi Barry

I would definately ask, tell them its only now you come across this letter and realise you have been given an offer, you could also post on the reclaiming card charges on that particular thread as well, I'm sure someone can confirm this for you, good luck.:);)

  • 3 years ago I took out a loan with Barclays and I was sold PPI even though I was self employed at the time. I used the template letters from this site to reclaim, and when Barclays wrote back declaring they hadn't mis sold the policy I gave up.
After reading Martins' update informing me that the banks always send that answer back, I asked the financial ombudsman to look into my claim and guess what, Barclays have settled. £3,895 + £623 interest, a whopping £4,500 and change whicw I had given up on.
WELL DONE MARTIN, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

February 2009 I used a solicitor to try and reclaim missold ppi from Welcome Finance on a no win no fee policy (2 old loans and 1 present loan). At the end of October 2009, Welcome made us an offer including interest to date on the first 2 loans and the current loan they were cancelling the ppi from the day we took out the loan and repaying it to us, and altering the loan to reflect the new repayments. We signed for this and were quite happy thinking by Christmas we would have the money in our sticky little fingers (my husband lost his job in October so the money was desperately needed). During this time we were late with a couple of weekly payments and they hounded us till we paid it. By January 2010 we still had not received the payment they offered us. I contacted my solicitor and was told that with Christmas and staff being off ill they were running behind with sending out cheques. As of today we have still not received payment. So again phoned my solicitor, who happens to be on holiday this week. Does anyone know how long it takes for Welcome to payup. They have now had 3 1/2 months of interest on the money they owe us, which theyn probably won't add on as we have already signed to accept their offer. They hounded us day and night when we owed 2 weekly payments. Do you think they are going to pay up or are they waiting for the new financial year? Success or failure???

spoke to my solicitor today and they have been trying to get in touch with Welcome. Everytime they ring they are put through to a different department. Eventually they were put through to the complaints department and left on hold for 20 minutes before being cut off. As the solicitor cannot get in touch with them she has had to write to them. I am still paying for a current loan with them including the PPI, they said they would reschedule this loan and cancel the PPI. Wonder what would happen if I didn't pay this and withheld it until they coughed up?

That is a VERY long time.........

Have you been in contact with Welcome? I got in touch with my solicitor today to chase it up as I have heard they are winding the company up slowly. Don't know how true it is but it makes me wonder if there is truth in it and that's why they are delaying paying out, I suppose if they go bump they will not have to pay us out. Just a thought.

    Hi there

I do not have a reclaim with WF but I am sure many have on here.
If they do wind up and you taken out your loan a certain date onwards then it may be the case that you could make a claim through the Financial compensation scheme (FSCS), but hopefully it will not come to that.

Hopefully others who have dealings with these will post up if they have heard the same as you here.
    Good luck with this.;)

Di, that is only for PPI though and sometimes these solicitors actually do other type of complaints don't they? The FSCS would not look into commissions etc.

  • I took out PPI with my card from MBNA in 1997. At the time I was self employed but couldn't find the original application form. I followed Martin's template letters and as expected was rejected after the 1st one. The bank sent a copy of my application form which clearly stated I was self employed at the time.

I then used the 2nd template and drew their attention to the fact I was self employed. This morning I received a letter stating that a refund of £8,241.53 will be credited to my next statement!!

I am thrilled and so pleased I was finally brave enough to challenge them.

    Thank you Martin xx
