I read about the PPI reclaiming process on this website and the very next day I received a letter from the Alliance & Leicester saying I might be able to reclaim.
I rang them to discuss and was asked why I thought I had been mis-sold the PPI when I took out the loan. I explained that I was given the impression I would not get the loan without taking out payment protection. They noted what I said and informed me they would look into my claim.
One week later I received letter saying it was being looked into, two weeks later received an offer of £481, yippee, which I accepted of course. This all happened at the right time as just received a very high gas bill but that's another story!!!
Thanks to money saving expert for the advice as I wouldn't have known what to say when I rang Alliance & Leicester and I would encourage anyone who has taken out PPI to contact their lender as they may be entitled to a refund too.
    Good luck :j

    Hello,

Again I would like to thank this site for directing me to the reclaiming of PPI. Today I met with a very quiet guy from HSBC who restructured my loan to lower payments, at the same interest, on the same terms and Liverpool Victoria also told me a cheque was on its way. I'm just awaiting the credit of my refund of PPI from HSBC also. £9,200 from the two companies not to mention the £900 pound charges i got from HSBC about two years ago. Thats 10k over two years . Many thanks all.
And oh yeah I do have to pay tax on the interest refunded by HSBC over £300 quid in all but they can do this as part of PAYE or you can send the tax office a cheque! Thanks all.

Bit of a long story but please bear with me im a bit new to this! My mother received a letter from Alliance & Leicester back in Nov 08 saying her PPI may have been missold and to contact them which she did and within 2wks they had offered her full refund amounting to 100 pound which she accepted so great result. I had taken out my loan at the same time but not received a letter so decided to complain anyway because id been forced to take on the PPI by pushy salesman so reckoned I stood a chance. Its now May and its still being investigated the Financial Ombudsman is on it so just a matter of waiting for their decision. While all this was going on I received a letter from A&L about 3wks ago stating that my PPI may have been missold and to contact them to discuss it and if I had already complained then to ignore the letter! I thought this was all a bit odd so rang them anyway despite having already complained and am so glad I did as this actually related to 2 other loans I had previously held with them! Received a letter this morning offering 565.46 refund for 1 loan and 233.42 refund for the other:) very happy with this just hope I can get the original complaint sorted then that will be the whole thing put right!

So if you receive a letter and you have already complained I would advise checking it out anyway as it was a pleasant surprise for me anyway. hope this helps someone im off to pay some bills now!
