Today I have good news, yet another victory for those who choose to fight for what's theirs :D

I will just briefly give my story, I have been an Egg card holder since 2004 - I certainly never asked for PPI, I never do, so must have fell victim to the pre-ticked boxes. I did actually query it back in 2005 but I'm pretty sure they fobbed me off saying it was some sort of "standard charge"... anyway I cancelled it off earlier this year, I've always been a "good" customer (in Egg's eyes anyway) as I have made full use of the huge credit limit they decided to give me (being young and having a huge credit card limit - bad combination!!).

I wrote a letter at the end of April, got a reply a few days later saying they will look into it etc. I only wrote this as my reason on the letter:

"This is due to the fact that you have been fined by the FSA for failing to treat your customers fairly when selling Payment Protection Insurance and I do not believe that my policy was sold in my best interests."

I was not self-employed or had an existing medical condition, and I know a lot of people have had issues claiming from Egg when it was due to not giving a reason in particular...

... but today, logged in to check my balance and I see they have refunded me £1,643,86!!!

I still have a few grand to clear off my card but this means I only have a couple of months to go 'til I'm debt FREE!!! HOORAY!

I only had to send the one letter, and have not even had a letter back from them yet - so I think after I have cleared the card I will request a SAR just to make sure I got everything I was owed ;)

Just want to say a big thank you to this forum, I'm now considerably less in debt thanks to you guys - and anyone reading this wondering if they can get their "card repayment protector BS" back, DO IT!!!

    What: PPI Loan insurance
    Who: Northern Rock
    How much: £2879 plus 8% interest £524 - Total: £3403
Letter or Ombudman: 1 Letter + Norther Rock Form

Had the letter through this morning, Reclaimed missold PPI on a loan with Northern Rock. Start to finish its taken about 6 weeks it was all quite straight forward, The remaining payments have been dropped by £50 a month. Thanks to Martin for providing the guides and this website.

    Hi All,

I am attempting to reclaim PPI for a loan I took with EGG back in 2000. They have refused my claim saying that I took this loan out on-line, when I stated that the option must have been pre-ticked - they are denying this. I am 95% certain that I did not opt for this policy as it was a bridging loan to tide me over until a lump sum of money I was due to get 3 months after I took out the loan. Does anyone know if EGG did pre-tick the PPI option? Anyone had a successful claim? I have accessed a website archive and can see that the loan application page is not available, but the loan calculator page is with PPI pre-ticked! Thanks, look forward to any feedback.

write back to them tell them you did not want ppi and if they dont give you the reply you want, go to fos, it doesnt make a difference how you got the loan you have the same rights, good luck with this and keep us posted

Thanks amersalll, I will go direct to FOS now as EGG have told me they will not respond to any more of my letters! I only wrote twice, don't think they liked the contents of my second letter as I was very detailed in what happened and questioned whether the option was pre-ticked - I will keep you updated. Thanks again
