PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi all
Just want to share my success with you all and say thank you to this brilliant site.
My Husband and I were both self employed during 90's up until about 2004. We had business loans and credit cards. I moved house in 2010 and got rid of alot of paperwork which I had kept for along time. With limited information I have been able to win back most of the PPi claims which I challenged
Llyods. Business loans £5,000
Halifax credit card £3029.33
Woolwich loans 18th August 2016 £4,160.85 from Barclays
MBNA loan £2417.73
American Express upheld my complaint but offered 65p as they no longer hold sufficient records. I worked as a case handler and know the pressure workers are to meet targets. I would challenge any decision if you feel it is not right.
I did not use any claims company and wrote simple letter to all companies, just changed card or loan details where relevant.
There is still time mine was simple because we were self employed and the PPI would not have covered us.0 -
I live in Scotland so it is the Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) is responsible for administering the process of personal bankruptcy and recording corporate insolvencies in Scotland.
I have spoken to them and they informed me that they had no interest in an ppi refunds and sent me a letter to inform the companies of this fact.
Been blooming lucky then, borrow money, don't pay it back, had your debts wiped and then get more money from the companies you didn't pay backSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

My friend told me about her successful claim from her Barclaycard and how easy it was to do by filling out an online form. I was a bit pessimistic at first but did it anyway - nothing to lose, all to gain! Last week I got PPI repaid by Barclaycard (after just under 8 weeks) of £3,000!
Buoyed by this success, and encouraged by your articles and templates on MSE, I dug around the house and found evidence of several other credit card and store cards that I held in the early '90s. I had completely and utterly forgotten about many of them. I now have 4 more claims in progress. I was pretty naive about money and didn't realise that PPI was optional, any benefits of the insurance were certainly not made clear at any point. Looking back, I know now that my generous employer benefits would have covered my salary in case of sickness.
Today I have received a response from Citicard for The Associates credit card that I held from 1998 (I only found one account statement as my evidence!) saying that my complaint has been upheld. This was one credit card that I was not holding out much hope for because I had not seen any other tales of joy from claimants against Citicards. I was expecting this to go to FOS and to take several years to battle...and guess what? They are paying me back almost £17,000. I can't tell you how much of a difference this massive amount of money will make to our lives!!!
So if you're still dithering, like I did for many years, DON'T WAIT and get claiming! They owe you. They mis-sold the product. It's your money.
Good luck!0 -

Brilliant well done
When you did your full and finals, did you get them to put it in writing that they would not sell the remainder on to collection agency?.0 -

Yes.
Letter was watertight.
Also each time I made the the offers and they accepted the terms I transferred funds to a family member and they wrote a cheque for me as a 3rd party.
Also that they update my credit record as settled.31st December 2004 - Debt was £128,596.72

Debenhams card from June 1994 , Paid off in 2003 claimed from Santander £10K
I'd been banging on to my sister about claiming back her PPI since a successful reclaim of Barclays Additions on my part last year.
She eventually wrote to Santander in February and had a Reject letter back in April. Due to circumstances she dragged her feet but I was worrying about a six month clause.... Anyway I got hold of the letter and noticed there was a paragraph almost at the end that referred to employment at the time of taking the policy out. It turns out the box was ticked but definitely not by her, the seller had gigantic writing and it was clearly them.....they had not asked ANY pertinent questions other than did she have a credit card.....they never asked if she was in employment. She had tried to cancel it a number of times but they insisted that her husband was covered....despite him not being on the card and despite the fact she could never have claimed unemploymnent as she was a carer.
In the end it was quite simple. Santander said if she could prove that she was not employed at the outset they would look again. She contacted HMRC (takes 40 days for results) and at the same time contacted Santander to ask them to reopen the case. as she was contacting HMRC in order to prove non employment. Didn't have to wait long, that was beginning of October, she had a letter this morning offering full payment.......which in full was over £10K :T:T:T minus tax (which needs to be reclaimed) so currently over £9K ! Cannot remember to exact breakdown but she paid about £1400 in PPI so they have had to stump up much more for their ill-gotten gains!
Thank you for all the help and advice with Debenhams/Santander that spurred me on to help my sister. feels like a massive win....even though its not mine!!!Sunshine0 -
That's great news Sunshine, I am so happy for you and your sister

After Newday rejected my complaint for missold ppi, in November 2015, I complained to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Got a letter from the Ombudsman at the beginning of September 2016 saying that they are now ready to investigate my claim, but that Newday had decided to make me an offer. It was a marbles credit card, previously beneficial card from 2000. They have offered £19,375.77!!!!!
Happy happy happy! Good luck to everyone who has been cheated in the missold ppi scandal!0
