Me and the missus recently claimed our ppi back from our Halifax mortgage back in 1997 and also a loan and credit card from the Halifax which we had in the early 2000s.

I wasn't really expecting anything as we didn't have any account numbers but the Halifax replied within a couple of weeks and sent us the ppi questionnaire to fill in, which we did and returned to them.

Then on Saturday we received a letter from the Halifax saying that we will be receiving a cheque for £6500 within 28 days. Then on Monday we received another letter also from the Halifax saying we will be getting another cheque for £3250.

Just a case of waiting for the cheques to arrive now!!

Edit - first cheque for £6500 arrived 27/10
Edit - second cheque for £3250 arrived 28/10
  • I knew I had been mis sold PPI on A Barclays Loan in the late 1990's but I had no account information or dates and I am now no longer a Barclays account holder.

I tried using a claim company, The Claims Guys who asked me about every loan or card i had ever taken out. They came back with nothing on any of the accounts and without some more detail on my Barclays claim they could go no further, so i gave up hope of ever reclaiming it.

Then my brother who is still a Barclays customer told me his success by using the PPI complaint portal on the Barclays website.

I filled what details i knew and sent it off. A short while later I received a call from Barclays asking for more information as they had found my account details. I informed them that i remembered being led to believe the loan application would not be accepted without PPI.

A few days later i received two letters from Barclays, one saying my claim had been rejected on one account, not sure what this account was. The second letter said my claim on the loan account had been successful and 10 days later i recevied a cheque for £926.00.

    Happy Days!!!:j:j

Unless you have it in writing the PPI firm are no longer representing you, keep some of the money to the side as they may come asking for a share, they shouldn't and probably don't have a claim but you never know

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Hello all!

I successfully received a refund from what was HFC (later Beneficial Finance) for a loan i took out in 2001. When i took out the loan i was a student(?!) and was therefore mis-sold PPI. I wrote to them myself through the ombudsman and received a cheque for £1200. :):):)

I would like to check for other refunds due from old credit cards, but do not want to go through a company. Is there a way of doing this? One of my cards was with egg and i dont think they even exist anymore?

    Many thanks.

A PPI claims firm will use the same process you do - either memory or your old records (last 6 years will be on your credit report). Your financial records are not in the public domain, they have no way to find them out.

Egg cards go to Canada Square if it was closed before October 2011 unless your card was transferred to Barclaycard (0844 811 9111)

    Canada Square Operations
    PO Box 4903
    Worthing
    BN99 3AR

If the cards were taken out as a student you may have a case, if they were taken out after then you need other valid miss-sale reasons

  • In the past few days I've started the ball rolling and have a sent a letter to my bank with regards to PPI/card protection which I was mis-sold many years ago now, back in 2002, when I was only 16.

As it has taken me so long to pursue the matter - do I have a decent chance of recovering anything?

Lot depends on whether they have any records left, whether they agree it was miss-sold and so on. If the policy didn't cover under 18s and/or you were not in full time work when it was taken out they may well pay up.

    Is the account still active?
Did you pay off the balance in full every month or not?

  • Hi just a word of warning , i have poi on a Barclay card , been paying it for 17 years, but I didn't know I had it, I tried to get it back they said no , I then asked what I covered and was told its was for redundentce etc I said well I was made redundent last November was unemployed for two months then went self employed, they said to send proof , which I done they still said no , I went to the ombudsmen and got a letter today saying they side with Barclays , the fact that I didn't claim when made redundent and have been paying for a year as self employed doesn't mean I didn't know I had it !!!!! I should of gone through a claim company be careful if trying to get it back yourself

A claims company would have harmed your chances by filling out the form with loads of lies about your circumstances, they have a worse rate of wins than people complaining directly.

If you had PPI for 17 years how on earth did you not see it on a single statement given it would be listed on every single statement?
