Took out a large loan with Natwest(RBS) 5 years ago, still paying it back now, in January I came home from work to find the wife trawling through loads of paperwork, she had had heard about PPI mis-selling and thought that we had a PPI on the loan, and we had been told we had to take out the PPI due to the large amount we were borrowing, she had contacted a couple of companies asking advice on how to claim it back, they were obviously eager to do this for us! but when we discussed this they were going to charge us 25%, so I looked at MSE and found the form to fill in and all the information I needed (thanks Martin) form filled in and sent to PPI customer concerns team in Manchester on 19th January, we recieved a letter on the 30th January confirming they had recieved our complaint and would deal with it, it would take upto 8 weeks.
25th February recieved two letters from bank making me two offers, one for the loan we were claiming for and one for a previous loan.

    Offers :- £7,548.26
    £1,258.07

This will be paid into my account within 28 days
So we are well chuffed and we saved ourselves well over £2000 in fees by doing it ourselves, Many thanks for the advise:rotfl:

Well done nobsac :T great results and just shows how much can be saved by doing it yourself ;)

    So pleased!!

I used the which? Site to email Halifax on 31st Jane had the standard acknowledgement letter dated 5th Feb and I've just come home to a cheque for £1426.55! No idea of the breakdown as it was literally just the cheque!!
  • some years ago my son had 2 loans and sadly defaulted on both due to no work causing money problems but had paid ppi on both for a period of time.both loans were sold on to debt companies and have now been settled.
however he has contacted both companies in regard to ppi paid before default and he has heard back from one of those companies with an offer of around £400 but they say it not his as it belongs to the loan.is this right?
any thoughts and help appreciated he needs to get back to them asap

    many thanks
  • For the longest time I hated receiving phonecalls of companies offering to get my ppi back, and only after reading the moneysavingexpert guide on how to reclaim it yourself, did I decide to give it a try... I sent my letter and filled-out questionaire to reclaim ppi on my credit card to Halifax on the 18th of January, received a letter on the 24th of January to confirm receipt of my claim, a second letter two days later telling me that they were now reviewing my case, and today, 27th of February I received a third letter, which contained a cheque over £1341.14 as settlement... Unbelievable!!! This was without doubt the BEST return on investment on any "recorded delivery postage" that I have ever paid for!! :j

I am still awaiting the result of my second claim against Capital One, which I sent out two weeks later, and so far I have received their letter in which they confirm the receipt of my claim... let's see how this one ends!

Thank you SO MUCH Martin, for setting up this website and providing all this information for FREE - you are a true modern Robin Hood!! When I first stumbled across your site while I was investigating how to reclaim my ppi I thought it was one of those "too good to be true" websites that promise you everything, give nothing and take everything - well the opposite is true, you give everything, take nothing and your promises stand up to be relied on - a rare and very precious thing in today's world! THANK YOU and your team for all your hard work, and for standing up against the Giants. I will do everything I can to spread the word about your website, to help as many people as possible. I have already saved more money when booking a rental car through your comparison tool, sent a free Valentine's card that my partner absolutely loved and signed up for more free or discounted deals that I found through your weekly email, and I couldn't be happier that I found and read your website. Keep up your amazing work and thank you once again! :T :T

It is correct that they can use any redress to clear debt, seems like that is what they have done

  • thanks dilus just did not think they could do that as debt has been paid off
  • hi every 1, just received a letter from MBNA , witch i am confused, should i take it further,

    the letter says

thank you letter dated 4 february 2012 regarding the payment protection insurance policy, which you purchased to protect the repayments on you mnba credit card account, and for the information you provided.

our records show that ppi was applied to your account at your request on 23 august 2006. enclose a copy of your application form. please note that as your application was made online, the signature you provided was an electronic one.

during the internet sales process you experienced, information about pip appeared on a separate screen to your credit card application. it would have been clear from this separate screen that the pip was a distinct product from the credit card. in addition, you were offered an option to tick the box to purchase ppi . this option to tick the box would have made it clear to you that you could choose whether or not to purchase pip. given that you ticked the box, i am satisfied that you actively chose to purchase pip and understand that it was optional when you did so.

at the time the pip was added to your account, you were eligible for cover (you stated on your application form that you were a uk resident, in permanent employment and aged between 18 and 70). as you have not provided evidence you had any other adequate means of protecting your repayments in the event of prolonged sickness or unemployment, i have reached the view that. given for circumstances, the ppi policy you purchased provided you with cover which would have ben beneficial to you. i have seen no evidence of anything which would have changed your decision to purchase the ppi policy. on this basis, i regret to advise that i am unable to uphold your complaint or refund of premiums you paid.

do you think i should take it further or leave it alone? and ifso what steps do i take next? thanks dean

Was the debt cleared BEFORE you complained ? If so how long before, or were the two events close to each other ?
